Reviewer should have tested the lens with a Pentax. The in-body Shake Reduction would have helped him reduce the number of blurred images caused by handshake. :bsmilie:

Totally agree :D My handheld shots are way sharper than the testing shots from the reviewer, and I can get very decent result even at a speed of 1/250s :bsmilie:

Sometimes I really wander if they should've posted reviews like that at all (w/o using a sturdy tripod, not being serious ... )

How far were you from the subjects? Just wondering... Yup IS sure helped greatly in your case hehe, can't imagine hand-holding a 500 lens.

The lens can focus to as close as 1.7m, and that's for a 500mm lens! As to the distance from the subjects, depends on which photo you are looking at ... but should be between 2m to 50m I guess :)

sorry for noob question.. is this lens autofocus? :)

HI Fengwei,
Your lens looks great. Motivated me to try mine again. I noticed my Sigma600mm does not have aperture control. Which means if could not be stopped down and explains why my shots are not as sharp. Is my assement correct?
Anyway, these were taken tonight. I tried both jpg and raw on my K100D.

If i'm not wrong, you can't change the aperture on most, if not all mirror lenses.

Hi Denosha
If you look at Fengwei's lens in the first post of this thread, you can see the aperture settings, so I am guessing this one can.
Cheers :)

That aperture ring is on the adapter i think. You can see the mounting dots btw it and the lens. Furthermore, you see that the settings go down to F1.4 which this mirror lens obviously won't do.

ah..i see...so there is a way to vary the aperture afterall!
Thanks for the clarification...:)

The aperture can't be changed on a mirror lens. I own a Tamron 500mm f8 too.

The aperture ring is part of the removable lens mount (Adaptall) and can only be rotated when attached to non-mirror lens.

Mine besides a 50mm lens.

I see that they managed to produced the donuts in the oof background.

That's the special feature of all mirror lenses I guess. Some might not like it, but I know some do like it (not me though) ;)

Just like CY said above, it's MF lens. Not many AF mirror lenses made, only very few ...

Very nice, and I can see your moon is bigger than mine ;) Actually if the photos are 100% crops from the original ones, they are very good. But if they are resized ones, I can't tell w/o knowing your PPing method ...

You are correct. This mirror lens has a fixed aperture at F8, so you can only use the lens wide open at F8 :)

Most mirror lenses have fixed aperture only (easier to make?). But I do know Pentax has a zoom mirror lens with an aperture from F8 to F12 :D

Pentax SMC 400-600/8-12 Reflex:

Another wonderful lens by Pentax :)

The aperture setting is on the adapter, not on the lens. It is for a lens w/ various aperture setting. When mounted on a mirror lens like this one, the aperture can't be changed :)
