Hi there, I thought of getting the Tamron but I dunno if the AF is fast enough for catwalk shows / fashion shows. Anyone can provide feedback on this? Thank you.

i don't think the AF is fast enough. depends on the lighting. its slow in general and very slow in low light situations.

Hi all ... i am new here and would need your advice. Just a bought a 550D with kit lens 18-135 and EF 50mm F1.8. The purpose of the purchase is for my baby who is currently 6 months old. Would you advice me to buy a Tamron 28-75 as it seems like it is a duplication to what I have? Sorry .... I am new .... tks
I walk into a shop and ask for Tamron 28-75 and an old salesman told me dont waste time and advice me to a good EF17-40mm f/4L USM!!! His attitude wasn't good ... quite piss with him:confused:

I would recommend you to get the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 on a crop if you're on budget, if willing to spend abit more, go for the 17-55 f2.8 IS. Exceptional lens for candids for kids/babies/etc.

Thank you for your advice ... I am a newbie ... hence would want to look at something that is not too highly price now ... since I am taking mostly for portrait, what do you think about tamron 28-75mm non vc?

Hhaha i would consider getting a Tokina ATX PRO 28-70mm f2.8. solidly built like a tank and pretty fast focusing!

i used both 28-75 and 17-50 from tamron. both are equally sharp, depending on your copy. the 28-75 focuses softer (nicer) BUT the range on the 17-50 is better on a 1.6 crop - go for the 28-75 if you shooting on full-frame

What's wrong with your 18-135? Together with your EF 50f1.8, you should have more than adequate lenses to shoot your baby. Shoot more and learn more about your lenses first. The time will come when you will know yourself what other lenses you require.

Hi bros... Whats the latest price for this lens? Looking at bns price and the price guide like not much of a different unless the price in shops have gone up. Thanx.

yes someone please advice on the current price Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX DG Macro please?

hi folks,

have both lens and using it with my D700. Price tag wise, Sigma (my the HSM model) is 2x of the tamron. Face texturing, seems that Sigma slight edge over the tamron. Colours wise, both give very nice vibrant colours.

I am heading to Japan and US next week and is serious thoughts about bring the SIgma along. It is REALLY Heavy.

The Tamron is lightweight and might come in handy for long travels.

Love both lens and keeping them for the time-being.

hi all, would like to ask T17-50mm or T28-75mm which is better to use for event shooting? i am using 550D.

Around $400-$500 depend on the condition. All shop only have HSM ver instead (cost over $1100) :D

For a crop body, the T17-50 is much better used in event (esp indoor).

Well, in the last few months, I have been trying to sell it for a friend. Response was very, very bad, hardly any response at all. So, apart from doing some testing at home, I brought it out for a field-testing during a model shoot. I was so very surprised by the results I got that I took it over from my friend. This lens is gonna to stay in my collection of lenses.

Just dun wanna to sell it for $400 - 500 anymore.:nono:

I am using the sigma non hsm on a ff sony and yes to the following
1. bad flare control
2. soft at f2.8

but its a solid lens sure it has some limitation like shooting at f4 everything is sharp but beats the point of having a f2.8.Its just my 2 cents worth is to work around the limitation than when u picked or finally save up go for the good old 24-70 cz

Hmm if dont mine me OT abit, did anyone have experiences on thoughts between these 2 (i.e. [Tam 28-75] and [Sigma 24-70HSM no macro]) and [Sigma 17-55]? Although 17-55 is quite a different range, was considering this since the [Tam 28-75] seems quite good value and alot of good posts about it. I like Sgima 17-55 sharpness and bokeh, but considering something a little less wide, hence quite curious to know the optics difference

abit like comparing apples to oranges, no offence. the 17-55 is a DX lens while the other 2 are FX.

I've actually owned the tamron 28-75. But on my crop body it's a weird range. Furthermore the af is painfully slow...

been using the tamron 28-75 with nex 5n and IQ is good.

Been using Tamron 28-75 on my D700, so far no complaint unless u can't live with the slow AF in low light at times. But I have no issue on that, u just have to decide on your own unless u have spare $$$$ to spend on 17-55 or 24-70.:bsmilie:
