I did test both lens in AP and on the spot I decided Sigma (prevous version before HSM one). Reason:

1. I like the built quality, although Tamron is lighter and compact but feels plastic and its like kit lens
2. I like a bit soft edges
3. I appreciate the 4mm wide difference
4. It can use for FF body
5. I do agree that switching from AF to MF need 2 actions, you have to pull the clutch and switch AF to MF. The reason Sigma include this feature is to prevent accidental changing focus. Example, the lens is in AF mode, when I focused that I desired, I can switch the switch from AF to MF, leave the clutch remain at "AF", this will lock my focusing and prevent and accident. I find it pretty sweet, I really disliked it at first but later I find it very useful.

Although 82mm filter is a bomb and its heavy weight, but this lens really can last and can't leave home without it. ;)

I've also just bought the Tamron 28-75mm, Nikon mount.

Tamron is having a promotion for April 2009.

Oh no!! Just got my tammy last week but MS didn't tell me about promo. Didn't even give me the cleaning cloth, towel and bag.

this sounds like john 3.16 price. is that right?
Shxxx I just place an order for $650/= all in

Your 545 plus tax is only 583

Anyway thanks for the info
so which shop is selling it at the cheapest price?

dunno whether u guys know abt this, but cheapest might not be the best, esp for Tamron in this case. cos, from what i understand from john 3:16, the low price usually are the ones that come 1yr international warranty, which means that its an 'overseas' set. if there's any problem, u bring it to agent in SG, they will not service it.

on the contrary, those that r a bit more ex ones are 'local' sets and came w 3yr local warranty, which the agent will honour if u bring it in for service. u might wanna verify this point before u buy. hope this info will be of help to others. :)

if its local set you will get a warranty card stating 3 years by JEL. I think u need to provide receipt when claim warranty.:)

IMO, for the price the Tamron is serving me well. Don't feel the weight is a burden during walkabouts as compared to the nikkor 24-70mm. No doubt the nikkor is a better glass but its heavy and with the recent price increase, will burn a big hole in my pocket.

I just to confirm, is this comparison between the Tamron which according to this thread is less than SGD 700.00 VS the Sigma which accoriding to this thread:

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=520750

is around SGD 1,200.00 ++

???

This thread is started a few years ago. The comparison is with the older Sigma 24-70. Not with the newer HSM one.

got my tamron(nikon mount) for $590 at lords...but it seems to have problem focusing at live-view don know is it lens or body problem.

use a different lense and if the problem persist then you can conclude its a liveview problem... or maybe not a problem, i understand liveview focussing is slower than normal.

heard nikon liveview quite bad...my sony can focus n take faster...
anyway viewfinder very fast...shouldnt be a problem..

yap, i have to know also, any one tired it lens on FX body??

i planing to buy it lens..

i scared will be Vignetting on 28mm wide.

yes bro..its a macro...

another new user of tamron 28-75mm..

just tested it yesterday taken at 28mm f2.8
the IQ is good...however the af still needs improvement...same as my previous tammy 17-50mm f2.8, the af point always not accurate n slow...got to half press a few times to capture the rite spot...anyway, im intending to use mf selection instead...

But for that price...its an extremely good lens..with excellent optics!
