Hi Bro,

Yes, mine comes with 3 years warranty.

The warranty also covers pictures that comes out 'not nice' and i am entitle to refund.

I paid $10x0 is also because of the good salemanship i got from that men ....

i understand that he is a family man and have 5 kids to feed ....

so i didn't mind to pay another 70 - 80 dollars more ....

:p

Well, unless they are paid by commission, paying extra doesn't help the salesman at all :) Only help the big boss earn more...but i paid $935 with 3 yr local warranty also from singapore about 1mth ago.....

I am considering this lens recently... Are you folks happy with the lens and IQ? Appreciate if you can share some of your shots. Thks!

Being using this lens most of the time, really good tried it at fireworks wonderful.

hi...would like to share with you guys my "wonderful" shopping experience recently for the Tamron 18-270mm PZD. had walked around a couple of shops at Funan, checking out prices, all of which came up with the S$1K+ plus quote. then decided to call it a day, but on the way back popped by Peninsula. found a shop on the ground floor (Worldwide) that quoted me $8XX. did test the lens out on my old Nikon D80, found the zoom to be rather stiff. in my euphoria/foolishness over finding a good deal, i didn't do a proper check of the warranty documentation, but the retailer said that he would help me register on-line.

once settled down, i did a proper test and found the VR mode to be jerkier than normal, and some how, it couldn't not AF properly in non-VR mode, and that the serial number on the lens mount did not tally with the one on the box. also, for some strange reason, the diameter was 72mm instead of the standard 62mm seen in the product brochure. i wrote to Tamron's official distributor to check on the serial and specs, and was told that the peninsula is not on their list of distributors.

i then went down to the shop at the end of the week to confront the dealer who to my surprise, literally exploded and said that i didn't know anything about photography, all VR lens are jerky - notably Tamron's, they do not entertain refunds, that i should have known better, their warranty does not cover VR etc. fortunately i kept my calm and told them they lied to me about on-line warranty (they could not show proof), the serial numbers do not match, and the specs are wrong, and if they do not allow an exchange (i was nice enough not to demand a cash refund), i would bring the issue up to CASE. the guy basically said "please go ahead, we have our lawyers to defend us." (all of the above conversation was in Chinese btw).

i refused to barge, and finally, the guy stomped off and said he would go and see if they have current stock. after like 15-20min of waiting, he came back smiling and said, that they didn't have stock and his "boss" indicated that i can pick any of the other lenses in exchange. tried to push a Nikkor 70-300mm (not sure why, as it is totally different from the Tamron 18-270mm) and then a Sigma 18-200mm, the latter is obviously a lot cheaper than the Tamron. the audacity.

having refused to take the bait, i told the dealer that i would pick up a proper Nikon kit which has a fixed retail price and pay the difference. he was again all smiles. and that was basically the end of the saga.

i finally got the Tamron 18-270mm from an "approved" distributor. loving it so far. moral of the story, don't be distracted by price alone. value the purchase experience. avoid peninsula. and actually, the Tamron distributorship should keep an eye on the grey sets in the market as ultimately the dubious quality of these items will hurt the image of the company. some of the user experience issues raised seemed to be in line with the HK imports and grey sets out there.

That Worldwide shop must be avoided at all cost. Glad that the whole saga ended well :)

First of all, you were really kenna con. The sheer size & weight diff of the PZD and non-PZD version is the first indicator. Of course, you have to try the non-PZD version to know this. The ones that you got is obviously the non-PZD version, put into a PZD version's box and attempt to sell to you. The older version should not have the word PZD imprinted on the lens as well as it's a pretty new technology from tamron. Luckily for you, you manage to salvage out of the drama and warn us about it. Thank you.

I'm just wondering what proper nikon kit did you get in the end and how much difference did you pay.

Price dropped again! now $850 (Artworkfoto)

Yup, you are probably right about the non PZD version. The box however stated clearly PZD and I was too careless. I ended with a Nikon D5100 kit which I have been eyeing for a while. If I wanted to, I should have bargained down the final price, but got enough of the place and wanted something that the maximum retail price is known.

NB: does Artworkfoto come with 3-years JEL/Tamron warranty?

If you buy from Australia, it comes with 5 years Tamron AU warranty.
If you buy from USA, it comes with 7 years Tamron US warranty.

Honestly, sg warranty for electronics sucks. Not just camera gear only.

hi, a newbie here, what do you mean when you say its a grey set? also, interested in getting this lens, so far what are the places with better prices?

Grey set means parallel import. It also means that Tamron service center will not do any warranty work for it. If you bring it in, you have to pay for it.

Some shops give you shop warranty. If the grey lens develops a problem during the agreed warranty period, you bring it back to the same shop, and they will handle it for you. Just pray that the shop is an honorable one, and that they recognize the fault as a warranty repair.

Grey sets usually gets 1 year warranty from the shop of purchase.
Local sets usually gets 3 years warranty from Tamron service center and it includes AF calibration.

Here are some shops in singapore that sell grey sets:

DD Electronics http://www.ddelectronics.com.sg/
Artworkfoto http://www.artworkfoto.com/
Technogadgets http://www.technogadgets.com.sg/
The Camera Workshop http://www.thecameraworkshop.com/

This lens just won the EISA Zoom lens of the year award..
tamron is on a roll with zoom lenses..last year the 70-300 won, this year it's this one…
I wonder why…aren't there better similar models out there to choose from?
I have both lenses and they're good but not great…

Very true. Only Tamron makes 18-270mm lens. But if Canon makes one, confirm $$$ :p

Yea, only Tammy has the 18-270 and it's marketed as the all-in-one lens for traveling….maybe that's true for some people..
But it still doesn't convince me to only bring that lens out..in fact, the 18-270 is the lens i never bring out :)
