Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC

thanks alot! gonna check it out! its either this or the non-vc.

Make sure you get a good copy though. Some QC issues with this lens. I was lucky enough to get a satisfactory copy at the first box :)

the only thing holding me back from this good glass is the after sales support. have u ever wondered wad happens if the lens had problems and u need to calibrate/repair it? GG

Bring it to the agent I guess. 3 years of warranty, and I was able to solve my focusing issues with the aid of the AF microadjustment feature on the 50D.

the tamron agent will send the lens back to japan and you'll only get it back after 2 months. i dun think i wanna do that.

Yesterday just got the Tamron 17-50mm VC from Alan photo. So far, tried a few shots and quite happy the pq. :)

Just bought this lens from John 3:16 today! woohooo!;p
i guess they did a good job in doing their QC this time...hehe

*they = Tamron*

i got mine at 840 ;p the first batch from J3:16

lucky you..talk about introductory price :)

btw, not sure if u experienced this already... while taking pics, AF stopped working..then after u switch it off/on, problem disappears...

Amazed by the VC effect. AF was fast though a bit noisy. Loving it though. :D

i am thinking of getting this lens too...but the chances of getting problem with this lens is how high? And also i heard that this lens coating is not as good as the non-VC version one is that true?

Never heard about coating of non VC better then VC. Anyway I initially scared got prob jialat too but when i contacted the distributor, they say got problem send to them and usually settle in 2 ~ 4 days so i ok lah.

that is a salesperson told me...and how is this compare to canon 17-55mm?? as i am stuck with these two...if both are the same in term of IQ, sharpness and build...then pay more is really not worth it...unless canon 17-55mm got something worth for the value...

Hahaha yet another believer of the 17-50mm VC. Got it at $990 from MS Color with a Hoya UV filter, but do drop them an e-mail before heading down. The guy behind me bought the Nikon mount but didn't get the e-quote. He paid $15 more.
can this lens be used on ff?

You can research on how good the VC is against IS. My friend sold his 17-55 IS cause he read there were problems with the IS features by some users. I personally think that is hogwash cause house brand lens should be better but after he seen my pictures of 17-50mm, he did say almost the same in terms of sharpness so I guess the tamron should be good enough if you have budget constraint. However, if you're not gonna use it for low light condition stilled objects, I would say the none non VC would be good enough and you get to save some cost.

So there are QC issues with this lens? I'm kinda interested in this lens now... Can anyone tell me the common QC problems with this lens? The initial review at the-digital-picture looks kinda bleak, but the pics posted by the TS look great...
