Just bought a copy from MS Color. canon mount! It's really fantastic and impressive!! Good sharness, color and contrast, focusing speed (eventhough slightly slower than USM - but consider that price point), value for money!! the zoom ring slightly stiffer but still acceptable. grap them b4 they are gone!!

anyone tried using a slim CPL on the lens? Will it worsen the vigneting at 17mm?

Is this lens really dat good comparing to canon 17-40 F4L?? ???

hmmm tempting, any1 noe if still got stock?

Worsen? Slim filters should improve, and possibly eliminate physical vignetting. If you're using a 1.6x crop body, vignetting should be next to eliminated.

If you're talking about vignetting on a FF body, then it cannot be eliminated because the image circle of this lens is smaller than your image sensor.

I think MS have stock. $680 with filter as quoted by Florence through SMS. Dunno what filter.

Huh? $680 with filter?
I got it for $688 without filter!!!
Bought it last saturday only!

Worsen vignetting? From what i've tried, it does not have vignetting at 17mm.

Thats what i was offered. Maybe becos I was given special price..:D

does the lens extends during zoom and focussing?

edit: never mind.. from the looks of it i think it does.. very plasticky construction and look.. does it feel as plasticky as it looks?

The lens doesn't zoom when focusing but the focusing ring does rotate.

It is plastic but it feels good.

Tamron 17-50mm is a reduce image circle lens. So it tends to or will vignet at the corner especially the the widest focal length (17mm). Adding or stacking filter will cause more vignet. I don see the possibility of adding slim filter will improve the situation but only to minimize vignetting getting worst or not adding additional vignetting.

Vignetting might not be so visible under some condition. Try shooting wide open apperture at 17mm on some plain stuff like white paper.

Thanks for telling! I will try and take it on a white paper at 17mm, F2.8! ;)

True, but in real life application, it rarely happens, yes? The reduced image circle causes physical vignetting on sensors bigger than the lens is intended for. On a cropped sensor body, that it's intended for, it should vignette very minimally, or not exhibit vignetting at all.

Woo!

And it looks considerably better than the 17-50 too.

Too bad it's f/3.5-5.6

Normally this range of lens image quality and focus speed will be more Inferior.
If you need 2.8 and do not require longer end tamron 17-50mm is the one

Agreed. But I'd rather go for a 17-40L because I intend it to be compatible on my film body (and it's an L. Heh)

P.S. the photo..... than no need to use any "L" lenses.
