Very nice. Hope it will reach sg shore soon for some field actions!

Spoke to Tamron personal and he/she said expected arrival on our shores is FEB 2014.

Exactly, do hope that the build quality is super tight too and IQ on par or better than competitions.
It is made of plastic (so don't expect it to have build quality like 100-400L or 400 5.6L). It would be good for those who want to carry this beast handheld or long distance without getting tired.
Better build quality = more expensive.

Well can't compare to build quality of these L lenses. At 1951g
add 700 plus body, certainty not that light for prolong handheld for me.

Some comparison added

300f2.8, 500f4, 800f5.6 and of-course Tamy 150-600

@ Fable, not sure but people shoot Canon 500mmf4 handheld (Version1).
Believe me this is going to be breeze against carrying 600mm (Version 1) with Gitzo series 5 tripod ;).

thanks for the heads up.
This review sealed the deal for me.
Just waiting for stocks to come in :)

@ Fable, Thank you. There were days when i was active in birding now got kids no time .
@lightrules, No worries mate, also planning to get one (wait till FEB ;)).

If anyone want to see more sample taken on 5DMIII (not bad at all).

BTW a lot can be done in PP to bring back the detail, contrast and color tone.
All credit to person who upload this sample on above link, just want to show a minute job and how it bring detail out on feathers.

on Fable's hint,i browsed through your Flickr album..indeed very nice birding shots inside,a waste that u don't shoot anymore.
just curious if u still keep the 600mm?

Family commitments and personal reasons i sold the lens (it was pity that i didn't really use that lens to full extent but it was fun till i own the lens).
If time permits i will try to get involve more in birding (missing my old birding friends).

I was also very tempted but don't forget it would be grey set. So just wait for a bit more, you will be able to see more amazing reviews and you will be burning all over when this lens will be released in Singapore.

Quick question please: this lens wont be that good for sports right? At least not with the smaller aperture..

iam not sure how long u owned the lens, but to really understand a lens characteristics really needs more time shooting and it takes time.
Hope to see u in the field one day :)

@ richiemccaw1, you can try but it would be slow for sports.
@Turbonetics, I owned the lens for more than a year. And yes i did learn a lot while using big lens.

Was deciding whether to get the Sigma 150-500 or the Nikon 300mm + TC 14E as a basic setup for birding. Perhaps should wait for more reviews on the Tamron set. If the delivery to our shore is in February, hope it will be in the early part of the month, if I were to go for the Tamron. Then can use the set for Airshow 2014.

Hi,
Very tempted, especially after the review... but I think I'll wait for the review from the-digital-picture.com (hopefully, they will review this lens) and compare to my Canon 400mm F5.6L + 1.4x TC.

Have a nice day.
