Thanks, ctm1968,

This photo is also one of my liking, it gives me a peaceful feeling. The exposure used was f11, 1/125s, ISO100, focal length 10mm, tripod, no filter, no processing.

#4
It was the rays after the rain, the forest was quite dim, I used f5.3, 1/60s, ISO 500, focal length 75mm, handheld. A little bit curve adjustment in PS.

#8
f5, 1/125s, ISO100, focal length of 18mm was what I used, the lake was relatively calm that evening. A little bit of sharpening using USM.

#10
This was a lucky shot. I used f7.1, 1/800s, ISO100, GND, tripod, took 3shots of diff ev thinking to do HDR, but end up choosing the ev-2 pic alone.

I didn't cover Hualien nor Alishan in my previous trip to Taiwan, but I will definitely consider revisiting Alishan after looking at your photos. :)

Thanks moments, consider Jan to mid April during the sakura season, to enjoy the sakura blossoms. I am sure you will bring back a lot of breathtaking photos like your Western Europe and Beautiful switzerland series, they are my favorite series  I learned a lot from there.:)

Husband and wife tree (夫妻树)
A short distance down from Tatajia on the New Central Cross-Island Highway stand these two large lifeless trunks with bare branches that were left after a major forest fire. These trees have the romantic name Husband and Wife Trees (夫妻树), because from a certain angle they seem to hold hands. Both of them are Chamaecyparis formosensis. Chamaecyparis formosensis trunk is in reddish brown color and with thin bark.

your first few shots are quite impressive. when i was at these places, i'm still very bad with photography and by the time i improved, i still have a hard time dealing with logistic/timing and also handling the lighting in the woods, in the end never got shots as good as those few you have. but i think u miss the boat for the couple tree. if it is taken enroute and prior to yushan sunrise, you should be able to get the trees in beautiful silhouette.

very impressive series. :)

Thanks zoossh, I am a frequent visitor to most of ur series, ur Delhi to Ladakh rejoiced (H series) is one of my favorites, ur Taiwan (pns) rejoiced (vertical series) was one of the series I got a lots of inspiration from. You have such a good eye for all the great shots u took. As a newbie, I hope I can take photograph like u one day.:)
#6 was acquired on my way to Sun Moon Lake at abt 10am the second day. We did stop by the trees before yushan sunrise. It was the same time I took #1 Sea of clouds. It was a very short stop, after I finished with the 'clouds' I missed the chance for the tree. I managed to take a few shots but was not with good quality. like this one:

I like this very much especially the atmosphere.

u r already having some good landscape shots i have yet to take. i like #1 and #3. in fact, there are quite some similarities in the things we shot (which is not too often covered) and probably more photographers should venture out of the usual things in taipei. think philipcs did cover a lot. other than those places, sanxia, lugang and lanyu are the places i wanted to go but never have a chance as i'm a miser who prefers some cheaper countries. taiwan is not cheap for me. i think even seoul is cheaper.

the white flowers you show are called french magarittas, if i didn't got it wrong. and the woods of alishan, i got one pic that i'm very proud of although few hundreds over other shots simply can't make it to technical passing, despite of moving to DSLR and half a year of "practice". would i be better by going alishan the third time??? haha... i dunno.

and jinguashi (philipcs visited the gold mine museum which at my time of visit is still under construction, and some taiwanese i met said it disturb the originality of the location and one of the gate that he and his wife lean on should be the residence of the japanese prince who visited taiwan last time, which is again closed on the day i visited) is the location that got me thinking that i have to change from my compact into something better and i got my DSLR after returning from taiwan.

Hi, zoossh, thanks for the name of the white flower, I rename the pic. It is always hard to decide whether to revisit the same place after u realized that u could have do better there in the pics u acquired (although I think u already have very good pic there). It is even harder to choose between a family trip and photography trip, for this I think philipcs is very lucky.:)

Sunrise at Sun Moon Lake
This is the view from the hotel room window, I was lucky the hotel lady upgraded my room to lake view free of charge.
sun-moon-lake1.jpg

Hi, I'll be going there in dec. Just want to find out, which side is better to take pictures of sunset and sunrise and the harbour?
The shueishe center area or the youth corp hostels? they're opposide sides of the river and both got harbour i think. Cos i'm trying hard to decide which place to stay.
Right now learning towards shuieshe side. And may i know what time is the sunrise and sunset there?
I heard that u can actually go up higher ground by trekking the maolan trial to catch the sunrise. You tried that?

Sunrise at YuShan
This is the famous sunrise, we were viewing the sun rise of Yushan from Alishan. We were at about 2000 feet. It was cloudless (they were below us).
DSC_9940.jpg

Hi, also going to alishan. :p I booked the alishan youth activity centre. So wondering u know if that place is a good place to stay and catch the sunrise? I heard its quite way off and have to travel quite a bit.
Any recommendations of where to stay? And do u know if the forest rail train is back up and running? last i heard the tracks are under repair for quite a long time.

Nice composition but I somehow find practically all your shots to lack sharpness, aside from the shallow depth of field in some shots.

Hi David Chin, points noted. This is my first overseas trip with my DSLR, still learning and want to improve. Could you please help me by quoting the blur images, shallow DOF images, anyway to improve them. thanks for ur help. :)
