Switching to sony A7 (from m4/3)

Seriously...How many on these forums are goingto fully utilize all this new gear, when most dont really utilize the gear they've already got? Does it really matter if it FF when the majority of the images are displayed on the internet? I mean I love Sony stuff, but alot of switching just seems to be for bragging rights and talking about tech vs the Art of taking a good image.

Is it just me or is anyone else perplexed by the consistant amount of virtually new gear sold on the classifieds?

I just read the specs Keith posted on for the EM5, i think for video purpose, the EM5 cannot make it for me bcos it cannot do 50p. Maybe a EP5 ? U see, I have this funny urge of wanting to own both Oly & Panny. Since I already have a GH3, I thought maybe should get a Oly for its stabilizer function for my video recording ... do I make sense ? :)

Haaaa I opposite..... have a em5 and thinking getting a GH3..... but loads of distraction this few days.... kekekeke..... have not really try out GH3..... but the GX7 and G6 just cannot talk to me.... hmmmm.... same for Nex..... dunno....

Its Gear Acquisition Syndrome.. in the days of Film.. no need to keep changing bodies.. but in the digital age, all the vendors want you to change.. Check out Canon for Example. What is different from the 550D, 600D, 650D and 700D? Same sensor.. some additional things here and there.. but a rehash for 4 years... same for Panny and oly.. newer, more shiny objects that can do more.... and they want your $$$$. Is my GH3 more than enough camera for me? Hell yes.. i havent even used 1/2 of its functions or filters.. and yet.. when i see all the new stuff.. my hands become itchy.. lol..

Sidetrack.... Hows GH3 AF? Impt consideration for me.... or I will go for a APSC body aka D7100, 70D or upcoming K3..... all big giant compare to mirorless but if with better AF.... then no choice...

S-AF.. Very fast and accurate. C-AF. That's the weak spot of CDAF for action/sports. Not that you can't do it, just that it's harder. Eg focus and recompose or pre focus on a fixed spot and use burst mode, The EM1 has both pdaf and CDAF.

Whether DSLR or mirrorless, it depends what you shoot. You seem concerned about AF, the m4/3 bodies all faster than most DSLRs in SAF. Pro of CDAF is there is no back or front focus and hence no need for micro adjustments,

Thanks bro.... ya maybe wait for the em1 and go test both..... but the price for em1 is WOW....

Yeah.. It's crazy.. But it's pro mah... Lol.
But if you don't have older 4/3 glass, the EM5 is already very good

Why not ? Best of both worlds :) both Panny and Oly have different strengths which is obviously a good thing to have instead of a one-sided fight.

Or can just plunge in all the way and get an A7, ;)

The 5 axis does have an advantage in video shooting ; hopefully Oly will close the gap on its video coding soon.

I just got a EM5 for $750 from B n S and a EP5 body is just a little higher from what I see.
Superb value for money at this price point given what both cameras can do.

U aren't ranting and have a good point but progress is always good. (Real progress)

A month ago I thought the EM-1 and 12-40, 40-150 will be all enough to clear my bonuses and now all of a sudden we woke up to Sony FF and FE lenses, Panny GM-1, 2 new lenses from Panny and Pana-Leica 15/1.7, the Leica C , Pentax K3 etc Honestly it's getting difficult just keeping up haha.

Newer tech doesn't guarantee great photos but humans are wired to work towards bragging rights. I've friends who have pre-ordered the EM-1 and are now asking me if I wan their set as they decided to jump to Sony FF.

This is why I've a lot of respect for those who work their gear till their limits and only upgrade when their gear limits their skills ; not the other way around.

But thinking about this , I somehow feel that recognition should be given to learning the basics like rules of third , composition are skills that aren't aren't commonplace nowadays.

Seems like owing a camera is something like owing a handphone these days... New models appear very frequently and we all get "upgrade - itis"

Seems slower than m43..

Not surprised. The nex5t AF feels a tad slower than em5 and epl5. The other thing that Sony dun hv is a good sensor cleaner and weatherproofing. Not sure how good is their image stabilization.

Hmmm ... now new dimension to consider ... is the EM5 gonna be much cheaper than the EM1 ? if yes then worth considering ... buy when the E-M1 arrived ... :)

Or u can buy my EP5 set (panny 12-35, 20/1.7 II, 45/1.8, 14-150 & FL36R) when A7 arrives ;p

Someone correct me: Gh3=SGD1400; 12-35f2.8=SGD1400; 35-100f2.8=SGD1800 RX10=SGD1700
Bro. Do you have an interchangeable lens camera? From your posts you sound like 1) a point & shoot upgrader (who doesn't see the need for changing lenses). Or 2) you are a troll

I've already explained why some of us photogs and videographers use the tools we do. You can disagree. I don't have an issue there. But when you keep trying to force your point of view on others, it's borders on being trolling.

Why don't you go over to the canon or Nikon forums and ask why pros spend over 10k in FF gear rather than buy your perceived "best solution rx10". You'll be chased from those forums.

To close this off once and for all, I like to spend money using an interchangeable lens system that spans wide to tele. That offers me more than the RX10. I like spending 3-4k on the GH3 and the 2fast zooms. Don't understand? Too bad. But stop criticizing other peoples choices. Get a life and take photos. Stop trolling.

You might be right. Only the laziest or clumsiest photographers who shoots with just one zoom lens the whole day would be interested in the RX10.
Or worse, the ignorant ones who are willing sacrifice 0.3" in sensor size just to save two thousand dollars instead of getting a decent
GH3 + 12-35mmf2.8 + 35-100mm f2.8 combo.

there are pros and cons in each system. GH series is one of the best for video out there, especially with the hacks and mods out there. RX10? doesn't look like it comes close.

I understand your passion and love for Sony. But please watch your posting. You are very close to starting a brand war and being a troll. Consider this a warning.

Yeah specially A7r one review said it's slower than EM5 surprisingly A7 has dual af phase and contrast detect whilst A7r only contrast detect AF maybe due to newer sensor.... So A7r is slower among the two, but it has no AA filter...
