Dear All,

I bought the game Supreme Commander not thinking that my Nvidia Geforce 5500 would be more than sufficient to run it but I only found out it wouldn't run after installation. :embrass: :p

Now, I am looking to upgrade my graphic card so I was wondering if anyone here knows of any video cards that are compatible the AGP port used by the Geforce 5500 and can be used to play Supreme Commander? :dunno:

Kindly advise.

PS: Budget < $200 if possible.

Thank you.

the geforce 6 series is still the AGP 8X, can get easily sub $200 for 2nd hand. but new should be readily available for brands like leadtek.

but from what i see. if you want to play it smooth, the gfx has to be strong. :dunno:

I probably will get a new card... but what do you mean the "gfx has to be strong?" :)

think he meant the gfx CARD...

but since u using AGP chipset, i reckon your CPU also not really fast as well... why not upgrade all at 1 shot? Since PCIe is here to stay..

PCIe is here to stay man !!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

$200 can get you a XpertVision 7900GS Sonic 2nd hand... best part. can play Company of Heroes with full (Ultra) specs...

imagine the graphics...

i fell in love with the quadro man.... sigh... i think i should get the rams first... :bsmilie:

Well for $200... I think the best bet will be the 7600 series unless you are willing to pump out another $100 for the 1950Pro AGP. well the PC show coming soon, maybe you will be able to get one at abt $250 .....

Right.... well, cant really change my whole system....

But thank you for all your advice. :)

there are some 2nd hand AGP cards selling at Hardwarezone or VR-zone, which should be affordable. The fastest for AGP so far should be ATI X1950Pro, price around $350 new, not sure got 2nd hand or not. NVIDIA 6800 series also not too bad.

at sub $200, you should able to get 7600GS...

I am looking for a good AGP graphics card to replace my Geforce FX 5700. The ATI X1950Pro sounds very yummilicious.

Hazmee/Zcf, This X1950 model sounds very promising but it is a tad over my budget...

zcf, thanks for your tip.. will go check it out. But is it worth while buying a 2nd hand graphic card? :dunno:

It is over my budget as well. :bsmilie: I think I should check out the 7600 and see how it goes. Going to 'Slim' Lim today during lunch. Will update this space.

buying 2nd graphic card is depend on your luck, just like 2nd camera, but graphic card once spoilt, it's not worth the repairing usually

And what would be the difference between GT & GS? :) I saw a GTS model even...
it mainly indicate different version of the same model, with different clock/ram speed, pipeline enable etc, which sometime really make a whole lot of differences. e.g. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07...ear/page2.html#geforce_7_series_feature_table
GS is lower end than GT/GTS version.
you can see some GPU performing chart below
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html

Actually during PCShows, the best place to go is Sim Lim Square :bsmilie:

If you're upgrading to a newer card like the x1950 etc, don't forget to check the power requirements and make sure that your PSU can handle it. The newer cards have a high wattage requirement especially for powering the fans.

but even with a faster graphic card, you may need a faster CPU to give a optimum performance also. A high end GPU may be drag down by a slower CPU sometimes. as the CPU become the bottle neck of the system output.

mmm...happen to me many times, buy a latest game and than find out my comp not good enough.

Good reason to upgrade comp though...keke:bsmilie: :bsmilie:
