Thanks for C&C
No, for this shot, I did not use hyperfocal. And did not move anything during LE. Also dont know why the buildings seems oof... Maybe should sharpen up little more..

hmm.. my feeling it could be reasonating due to the tripod u are using... and "diffraction" for stoppng down too much... f11-16 will be good enough if u hyperfocal.. what tripod u on?

For this one, is f22, 15mm IS100. LE about 3 mins 15 sec. using 10 stop ND.

Using a very small aperture like f/22 makes your image susceptible to diffraction, which can reduce the sharpness of the image.

Some info on diffraction here and here :)

Hi Ghaz1,

If I remember wind was quite strong and it did drizzle during this morning sunrise:dunno:
I think I can correct this on another shoot but important is the distortion and corrected with the second one.

Wind caused vibrations could be a cause depending on your tripod setup and technique. Also diffraction of your lens contributing to the blur perhaps. The correction looks good to me.

Guess guess guess...:p

Shot wide open at f2.8 with D700 on Tripod

Shot raw and Processed straight out of camera, with no PP except WB adjustments..

You bought the MONSTER!!!!!! waaaa bro steam la... 14mm sweetness..... You ar, making me more and more gian to go FX...:cry:

Firstly, the keystone distortion correction is much better here. But I think you overdid it a little bit. Look at the left edge of the picture, the building seems to lean in a little now. The key before any distortion correction is to first make sure the picture is level first. Then you start adjusting the verticals for keystone. If not, it will go haywire. Anyway, don't work on it anymore la. wait for the next shoot. Take a break and relax. School holidays la.

Ahhh... I see the 2 possible problems there. Wind and Diffraction.

1. Wind.

Wind will affect your shot. Few things you want to take note when shooting LE (long exposures) in windy conditions:

  • do not let your strap swing and sway in the wind. roll it up on the tripod. I recommend an Op/tech pro-loop strap where the strap is removable via clips. Personally I use R-strap, so when I do not use strap, it is totally off the camera.
  • Make sure you do not extend the center column in windy situations.
  • buy some cheap bungee cords (those colorful rubber ropes with hooks at the end) and weigh the tripod down with your camera bag.

2. Diffraction.

For APS-C sensor based cameras, you have to be careful not to go too small an aperture. F16 is the smallest I would go for APS-C sensor. Usually I shoot at F13. I felt that once I go smaller than F16, the picture actually lose sharpness due to small aperture diffraction.

If you move to Full frame cameras in the future, note that the smallest aperture is F22 before diffraction sets in.
