Hi all, i would like to set up a TASTY studio, for those who are not aware, TASTY produce top down cooking videos.

Here's an image of their set up - https://www.facebook.com/buzzfeedta...1073741828.1614251518827491/1937587776493862/

Base on my research, they are using Kino Flo light infront and on top of their main cooking table. And they mount their camera using a strong overhead frame (which i dunno what is it call). I've also checked the prices too:-

- 2x 4banks 2ft Kino Flo is about $1600+
- Overhead frame, Cathay Photo is selling about $700+

I think the overhead frame at $700 is still affordable to me. But kino flo at $1600... ahhhh. no way for me. and also, im doing a home studio, so im also not sure whether can my home tahan the voltage or not.

Any pros to advise what are the good subsitute for this set up?

Kino flo power consumption should be quite manageable for even home usage, cos its CFL, not tungsten. 55W-75W per tube, you're looking at 2-300watts per fixture, no issue there.

Your $1600 is for one or two lights? Wondering if there's a mistake because one set is already US$1.2K - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1327177-REG/kino_flo_sys_244_230u_2_4_bank_system_univ.html

One suggestion to manage your costs, is to schedule/batch your shoots efficiently, then perhaps you can look into renting until you're sure you want to invest in a long-term solution. If it costs approx $50 to rent each 4 bank kit, then you're looking at $100/day. If you can schedule 10 shoots in a day, that's $10 lighting budget per shoot.

The cheapest is likely the DIY route, just google 'DIY kino flo'. I can imagine a row of CFL bulbs, if diffused sufficiently, might also serve as overhead lighting.
