Like the photos #1-4. Did you did some color tuning to the first 4 photos? It looks different from the rest onwards. Great job shooting. It didnt seems to me it look like orchard at all. Practice never stops...

yo bro, you are doing a good job, don't stop posting because of some shallow input. we cant possibly please everyone in this world, so just do what you love, and people that love what you do will appreciate it.

Do you use an outdoor strobe setup?

night86mare: I respect your talent and your opinion. I actually do separate street photography to street portraiture (thus the title). And yes, there is a big difference between the two.. sometimes I debate if I should put these under portraiture instead. The thing I love about taking portraits of strangers is that nothing is prepared, nothing is rehearsed. I just take photos of people who I think stand out of the crowd, capture a moment, and hopefully make them look great. I would not post photos of people who look their worst. Anyway, that's why i like doing it. And yes, I also like taking "slices of reality".

Paparazzis like bringing down celebrities down to our level.. trying to make them normal or even ugly. I want to make people look good. (no sure if I'm doing a good job, hope i am)

binxuan: I apologize if you find it distasteful. I should probably stop posting photos of strangers in forums if more people feel the same way. But I do not have malicious intent with these photos.. in fact I would like them to see the photos and feel good about how they look :) If they see this and want me to take them down, I will do so respectfully. Actually, about 95% of my subjects actually see me taking a photo of them. None had negative reactions so far (lucky me).

The Dry Box: That's a great definition of street portrait. I love it :)

khairi: that's a great link, man.

saboramos: the first 4 were taken in late afternoon when the light was about to get dim. Also, i applied a warming filter for the first batch.. and a cooling filter on the last one. Orchard really is great for it's variety of places and faces.

feetless: Thanks for the good words, bro... saw your flickr shots, i also love the candids there :)

sausage: no strobe setup, just choosing a location with good light.

junsangchoe: thanks, bro ;)

kapatid! very nice series.
magnifico! ;)

Splendid captured!
:)

In my opinion, this is most definitely street, although whether its good street is another issue altogether.

A collection of faces in public spaces. If these photographs were presented in a set photographed under the same lighting at the same angle with the same composition then they would beg the question of comparison. They would fall under typology. Just like http://www.guggenheim.org/artscurriculum/lessons/movpics_becher.php which is also why http://www.beatstreuli.com/ works.

Unfortunately the explanation for your work “who I think stand out of the crowd, capture a moment, and hopefully make them look great” is, in my opinion rather banal.

From a general viewpoint these don’t work for me simply because there is no element of composition. With regards to the “moment” itself, the expressions are not interesting and because the background is completely blurred out there is no association that can be made with the environment. Put these flaws together and they come across as being very voyeuristic with no concrete aim or idea to back them up.

Different people, Different eyes, Different viewings and Different comments.

btw, it's natural shots and nice.
keep it up for what you have done, hope to see more. :)

Dannysantos, dun stop! I am no expert in photography but I enjoy those pics, people on the street going about their own business and being their most natural self. I like these.

But frankly there are nothing much to shoot in Singapore.....very boring country.....:what::sticktong

Anyway some of his shots are nice. :)

Wasn't able to shoot this weekend due to the disappointing weather :( instead, i posted street scenes taken from previous weeks to my other thread. anyway, will continue shooting ;) thanks for the good words... hope to still get better at this.

here's a thought. why not shoot in the "disappointing" weather and see what you can come out with? might not be as disappointing as you think ;)

Thanks bro.. i used a humble 55-200mm vr. The technique is to not hide.. just accept the fact that if you are going to get a good angle and good shot, you WILL be seen by your subject :) Initially, it's nerve-wracking.. but eventually you'll get used to it. Just think of the ultimate goal of getting that good shot

sir danny santos, very nice photos! astig ka pre!
