Hi,

Another nob question......how should I store my Ikelite SLR housing when at home.....it is HUGE.....no more space in my dry box....do I need to upgrade to LARGE drybox?

Do I remove the o ring seals as well?

Storing the Housing
When the housing is going to be stored for a prolonged period it should
be soaked in a mild soap solution, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. Remove
the back and port from the housing. Remove the back and port o-rings,
lightly lubricate them and place them in a plastic ziploc bag. Place the
plastic bag inside the housing for storage. Operate the push buttons
periodically.

I make a big cloth bag to store the housing and put the whole thing inside my Pelican case.

Remove the main O Ring (back and port) and after cleaning off the old silicon grease... lightly reapply a thin layer to protect the O Ring from drying up. Store the O Ring in a Zip-lock bag.

I've never stored my housing inside a dry box... and its not needed for you to do so. Just make sure the housing is dry and free from Salt before storage. Maintenance of the small O Ring of the push button should be done by service personal... or if you are a cheapo like me... DIY using ikelite's own kit - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/330714-REG/Ikelite_6201_01_6201_01_O_Ring_Kit.html - i got this and does my own servicing at home... but of course, I risk drowning my camera because I can't do the pressure test at my place...

Dont EVER put o-rings into the dry box..... hard and expensive to replace once they dry out and crack

my 2 housings have always sat on an airy shelf, unlocked, OUT of direct sunlight with a generous application of silicone gel

yes remove o-rings and store in small zip loc bag .... just throw it into the housing to avoid losing it

Ive never put my housings in dry boxes. Since they are supposed to get wet, it never occur to me I need them in dry boxes. :)

I simply air dry them and put them back into the carrying case till the next trip!

As for O-rings, different ppl handles them differently. But these days, most o-rings for UW housings are made of syntactic materials such as silicone, thus, I doubt keeping them greased in storage is necessary. But maybe its just me, I never remove those o-rings even for storage, I leave them in place. Logic is that if its necessary to remove them for storage, we will have plenty of those little o-rings to remove. remember those buttons and knobs? :)
