I don't know about you guys who have made purchases at Lord's but i was really turned off when I was there to shop for a Nikon 80-200mm F2.8 lens. When I enquired about the lens, the guy attending to me quoted a reasonable price, however when I asked if could try the lens on my D70. the answer I got was that they do not allow trying out the lens as the lens was expensive. Guess it may have been the way I dressed that day, a slightly dirty T shirt as I had just finished work. That really turned me off, and I put my camera back into my bag and walked straight out of the shop. So far I have heard many good testimonies about this shop, but I guess this experience will eliminate them from the list of shops that I will buy my stuff from, period. It is the not just the refusal to let me try the lens that turned me off, but the fact that he probably thought I could not afford it. That pissed me!!!

Hm... if you can walk into the shop with a D70, why would they hesitate to let you try a lens that costs almost the same? Strange.... is the salesman having a bad day?

erm $10,000 for accessories on top of a $2.2K 'initial' purchase? I don't think I've held $10,000 in my hands before

:what: Hi Zaf

Surprised by your encounter at Lord's. If that is the policy for not allowing to test expensive lens (not sure about CP or AP), can't complain. But still should not treat customer like "dirt". BTW, who is the guy that attended to you.
They got a few guys there and one could be the bad apple.

Deviation.......

Hey ZAF, that's how I end up having my ride (our CAR). Treated badly (or wasn't taken seriously) at the local agents for two of the most popular car brands. (Wearing bermuda, free army t-shirt, and slipper on a Thurs afternoon). AE was the opposite. Never regret though coz happy with the ride. :)

haha. so u ppl think i shd go there ? since i noe the specs and stuff, im most probably going to be like the grab and go sort. haha. bud i think that they will allow u to try the lens if u are like...confirm purchasing something i guess. anyone noe that shop...im not sure wad builing, bud the one thats beside isetan, opposite wheelock, across the road, beside the newspaper salesman thats always there. ahha. who noes the shop there ?

In short, get from a reputable shop, you won't regret spending that extra hundred or so if the before/after/during sales attitude/service is good. Don't scrimp that small amount just because it's cheaper elsewhere, you might end up regretting...

Actually, for such an expensive lens like the 80-200/2.8, i'd definitely get the lens and bring notebook also to look at stuff at 100%. Finding later that one of the elements is misaligned coz one side is blury, ghosting or it does not focus accurately with your body is no fun.

Hi Waz,
There were 3 genetlemen there. One rather big size, one small build and one medium build. The medium build genetleman attended to me. Did'nt get his name, neither did I care to after I got that reply.

Off Topic:
Well the same goes for cars, I was similarly ignored like you when I went to probably the same two showrooms for the popular cars. Well I guess sales was good then, and they could snob at those who look like the cut who could afford but ask for fun. I also have no complaints, I think I did get a good car after all, thanks! to the snobs....
