Still Using a Film SLR?

I am still using my Minolta 700si SLR despite the availability of KM 5D and 7D. The reason I am not upgrading to a DSLR is because of the lens factor. I like my 24mm lens to remain 24mm and not 36mm.

Are there anyone like me still holding back on buying a DSLR because of this reason? If the 9D DSLR does not come with a Full frame 35 mm size sensor, I think KM can leave the DSLR market altogether and I will offload my Minolta stuff in B&S and have a hard time deciding on Sony, Canon or Nikon. But if KM does come out with a full frame 35 mm size sensor, I bet B&S will be flooded with 5/7Ds.

Anyway, my interim digitalcam is the 7.1 MP Canon A620. This is my second buy after the Canon G1 years ago. The A620 is impressive and has all the functions of a DSLR and more.
 With the features I see the A620, I woner if a full frame DSLR with all its weight, lenses, filters and flash is worth the while. My 700si sits in the humidity cabinet cracking, peeling and  calling out for a breath of fresh air.

me just bought a D7 after i bought a D7D, anyway, full frame is definitely better.... but i hope there is a switch inside... like D2X's 1.5 & 2x crop, i wan a 1x & 2x crop... so that i can shoot my 50-500 like a 100-1000 without teleconvertor... with AS. and still use a 17mm like a 17mm....

me still using good old d5 still with..

I am still using film, on my SLR, rangefinder, P&S, 4x5 etc, etc etc.

I do not care a damn if Minolta comes up with a 9D, 11D, or Nikon with a 300D, 400D, or Canon with a 7D, or whateverD or Olympus with E3 or E5 or E9, or Fuji with S9pro, half frame, full frame or extra large frame.

I shoot film because I like it!

BTW, I also use a Olympus E1.

Just got my film body for 'another mount'.. Nothing beats FF! Big VF, usable standard zoom and true wide angle!

30V ???
;p

I am using my 7xi and use it as a backup to digital and also to shoot b&w. The film grain using b&w with high iso is still difficult/near impossible to achieve with digital+PS.

To be honest, buying a 7D wasn't consider an Upgrade for me... I buy it because work demands it... and plus it is much faster in terms of work flow and have better control on my end.

NIKON doesn't have full sensor DSLR and they have no intention to do so either... I just have a chat with the man behind Nikon Australia, he mentioned that Nikon has no intention for really any full frame sensor, at least in the near future (1-2 years time). Full frame sensor though may be good, but it also demand high resolution lenses... so you are talking about using exclusively "G" Series lens on it...

So you are looking for either Canon, Kodak or large format alternative, you are talking about $5000 minimum for the body only.

Well, if you don't need a DSLR, don't need to buy one... Although I use DSLR for work, I still shoot slide for my own enjoyment... Still happy with my Dynax 7 and Dynax 9.

Digital or not digital, full frame or not, they are just a tool... you just have to adapt to it... there is no perfect camera system either...

I thought I would use film still, but I found myself that I don't use my film camera any more. Especially, since I spend more time and money on other hobbies as well. Once in a while, I pick my Maxxum 9, look through view finder, click few shot without film and admire. But, when I really go around shooting, I always use my Fuji S2 or my wife's D7D. Two Maxxum 9 just stay on cabinets as well as other collections of film cameras I have. It's becomming harder to shoot film anyway where I live around since traditional film development shops are going out of business fast.

That's sad isn't it?

I hope film one day will become a specialised work....

I definitely ain't hoping it will become a specialised work, cos it'll mean specialised price (read higher price). I'm still using my D7 and enjoying slides.

Not that I don't like digital. I've actually used 1 of the early digital cameras which uses a floppy disk as storage device (can't remember the model of that camera) and still remember that the future will belong to digital, but that doesn't mean I'll give up film.

Even if KM comes up with a full frame body, I would still be using my D7 in the near future. Basically there's no imperative urge to change to digital. Digital, like film is just a medium. Cameras are just tools. I use them for a hobby I enjoy and learn to create pictures with them.

Hehehe... what I mean by "specialised work" is of course and avenue for me to charge my client more if such technique is to be used again... hahaha...

was wondering, is x700 or x570 better, i am thinking of one?

I am still using Dynax 7, it is photography as I remembered... I still use both film and digital, both has their advantages and disadvantages. I find it sad though, that less and less people are using film.
