= Stefan's Weekly Singapore City/Landscapes II =

I find that the brightness is fine and it doesn't darken the silhouette too much, which goes well with the colours of the horizon. For the intended message, i think this works for me. Personally i think a slight increase in contrast would be ideal, only very slight increase would do

To add on, for photographs with many elements (there are many here: the stream leading to the sea, the glowing piece of wet sand, the couple, the sun, the plane, the texture), it would be useful to deliberately guide the eye. An overall brightness in the scene would basically not aid in this aspect, whereas a darkened version would definitely emphasize the relatively brighter (and darker) aspects here, e.g. the sun, the silhouettes, the plane. These 3 are more integral to the "storyline", I feel.. The rest are nice, but too many cooks spoil the broth. Plus a darkened version would also multiply the effect of the light vignetting, which will aid in drawing the eye to the centerstage of the photograph here. :)

Anyways, just my thoughts. Sometimes it boils down to personal preference. It may or may not work better. :)

IMHO, if the plane is lifting off, then the brightness goes with the mood, in this case the plane seems landing, so I would have to agree with edutilos.

lol, the plane just took off cos the airport is behind :bsmilie:

Judging from the location, direction of the plane and the sun, i think it is likely the plane was taking off. That said, I'm not too sure what is the sentiment behind lifting off = brighter and landing = darker. For me, reducing the brightness doesn't go well with the positive feel of a couple watching the sunrise and the loving gesture.

Ah, understand your perspective there.

Woah, sorry for not getting back to you guys. Many thanks for the responses and feedbacks. Been busy lately, so sorry for my late responses. I guess I'm a little late to add on to the discussion but I'll see what I can do with the image. :)

While I do agree that the foreground is a little distracting if I may say in my own critique, but to darken the foregrounds to bring highlight to the couple and the plane is not what I envisioned and it does not seem to work. The chosen idea to have a slightly overexposed image and its foreground was meant to create a profound, complimentary attachment and unison to the feelings of a youthful, bright, always flowing and always alive euphoria with the couple and the plane that flew over. But in my opinion that does not seem to work well either. :( If you ask me, I think the problem here is its poorly executed composition; and done in quick haste if you ask me - Got only less than 10/15 seconds to setup tripod and configure its settings in order in the position where I was as the plane was flying really fast. But that's still a bad excuse for a bad shot. :bsmilie:

PS, Someone within my cohort suggested a square crop for the photo; less of the foreground, thus creating focus on the couple and the plane. I will see if that works too. :D

I was also shocked to see it on the frontpage of ClubSNAP. hahhaha, thank you!!!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of your thoughts and words! Keep em' coming! :D

The Rimau Fantasy

2 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft. Tanjong Rimau, Singapore.

Shot with two different apertures at different focusing distances because the light was diminishing quickly, and I did not purchase a shutter release remote for the A99.

It was a great Monday - A blessed Monday in fact. I didn't have ample time shooting anything as of late. Was blessed with a good sunset which for weeks I've yet to shoot due to my hectic schedule.

3 cheers for Alawn Koh, aka Fibredrive, you're a great shooting buddy!

PS, I wanted to clone out that dark, ugly piece of cloud which has no use for the sunset, but his shot seem to include that piece of cloud there, so might as well for the sake of consistency. :p

Great shot bro and pleasure's all mine! hope we can tackle Ubin sunrise or LCK soon! and we've got to head back to rimau for those other rocks further down. haha.

Gorgeous; nice, lush colors.

Thank you guys!!! No worries Alawn, we shall DEFINITELY do that ASAP and when the tide and weather (hopefully) gets better! Here's another again! :D

The Rocky End

2 Image HDR/DRI 2 image vertorama to relief bottom spatial composition. Sentosa, Singapore.

Last one from the area. Should've upload this first because this was shot earlier than the previous'. I swear I'll try to edit photos and upload them consistently.

Again, I hated that piece of cloud lurking at the left corner, but I didn't want to clone that out for consistency sakes.

King of The Barrage

2 Image HDR/DRI for lightshow, 4x single image RAW vertorama to relief bottom tightness. Marina Barrage, Singapore.

Rarely do I go there unless there's an invitation for an event or fly a kite. Nonetheless, the only way to de-stress myself after a busy day from work on a Friday evening is a shot after dark and a quick lightshow from the horizon. I'll see if I could possibly one of these days, come back again and shoot a different POV.

ah Stefan, very nice rendition.

i always wanted to shoot this angle with the lightshow.

yesternight was pretty hazy, weather was zzz.

Sorry for my late reply. Yeah it was really hazy, and today is much worst. :( I'm planning to go there again sometime soon.

Moonlight Shadow

2 Image Time lapsed exposure for lightshow + 2 image vertorama to relief bottom spatial tightness. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

One of the last days where I play with the given 16mm fisheye lens for the Sony A99, timed with well for this day for the best position of the moon at this time of the year. Awesome experience, awesome camera. "Moonlight Shadow" is a Progressive Rock song by Mike Oldfield, I wanted to call it "Dancin' In The Moonlight" by King Harvest in the 70s, but it was a song choice I guess; though it had nothing to with any kind of "shadow" in the shot, I preferred Mike Oldfield's.

Unfortunately, after the lightshow ended, it started to drizzle (As you can see the storm clouds appearing quickly on the left), and initial plans called for extra few more images for the bottom to create the vertorama I've envisioned. Well, you can't win em' all. :(

Thank you, mds80. :)

That Sickly Feeling Again

Single Image RAW, 2 image vertorama to relief spatial balance. Marina Bay, Singapore.

It's that (unfortunate) time of the year where the haze sets in - smoke and poison fills the atmosphere due to the illegal burning of the Sumatran forests in Indonesia. Photography - while interesting due to the classical soft focus effects caused by the haze, staying outdoors for a considerable amount of time is a health hazard - I left immediately after the shot was taken.

So to all my Singaporean friends, drink plenty of liquids, wear a mask if possible and take care of yourselves.

The End Days of Toa Payoh

2 Image HDR/DRI 12 image panorama using GND 0.9 soft. Toa Payoh, Singapore.

After a recon of the area, this view from across the river is awesome. It was a little hazy, and you can see the sun from far ahead.

UPDATE: Fixed 2 pano mismatches.

The End Days of Toa Payoh [Take II]

2 Image HDR/DRI, 11 image panorama using GND 0.6 soft. Toa Payoh, Singapore.

The blur hour version of the same scenery. The distant haze really gives that nice hue of purple and blue - the kind of colours that really relaxes me.

The Sun on My Side

Single Image RAW, Pearl Centre, Singapore.

Another photographer's playgound within near the vicinity of my workplace. Just me over there.

Should've wore black jeans instead of blue... That'll work out better for this.

Thank you, mds80. :)

I took some hazy pics while in Shanghai. Every pics taken is not what I like. After much thinking, I convert a few pics into B & W. It turns out nicer. You can give it a try :)

Wear all black with a coat!

No coat, need $$$. :(

Thanks, actually B&W looks great as well. :) I was lost whether to include colour, or just simply a documented shot. But I guess I chose the other hahha.

This is brilliant. If the pillar is not then, it would be even better. Nice work and including yourself in your work are something refreshing...good job!
