Silent Hill

3 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + ND 0.9x2 stacked to achieve 6 stops for smoothed water effects. Punggol Beach, Singapore.

Worked an underexposed EV for this. Exemplifies the dark and melancholic feel I employ.

I feel my works are getting more repetitive these days. As much as I enjoy going the same places over and over, I feel it needs a change. Perhaps I'm not thinking hard enough to find different perspectives.

PS, You might want to consider calibrating your monitor if the rocks are appearing near black.

Last one from Punggol yesterday morning.

Raging Hill

4 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.6 hard + ND 0.9 to achieve slowed shutter for waves. Punggol Beach, Singapore.

Desaturated the foreground by 30% and fixed temperature due to the strong hue of orange emitted by the sun.

The opposition of silence.

Finally finished read all the 18 pages ..
awesome work, like it very much and the way you put your tripod make me speechless ...

Woah thanks for taking the time going through all of em'. :) I've also compiled my shots in monthly seasons grouping on the first page of this thread for quicker access.

I owe it all to my trusty Manfrotto. The behind the scenes posts not only show how the shot is done but kinda gives "justice" to my tripod - which has never appear in any of my photos that made it all possible. haha. :D Rain, mud, sand, salt water, "rouge" waves, etc. it has certainly endured lot of hardships. Yes, one of it's legs are permanently loose and unfixable, makes loud screeching noises when you flip the levers open but still remains very stable and tough for 3 years and counting. :)

just went through most of your work. lovely stuff stefan.

Can't Cross This

3 Image HDR/DRI using ND 0.9 for smoothed traffic effects. Shenton Way, Singapore.

Went there to visit a long time friend at his workplace, eagerly waiting to take a look at my entire camera gear. Came here at this traffic junction with him just to demo. Pretty random composition if you ask me.

Bro, is it possible you shoot a video tutorial on how you do, especially on the stitching together part? I wanna learn. I am imagining i put a small stool in front of my son school, then i ask him to sit on it and stay still. then put jit kilo of flash power on him, 2nd curtain. then put a dark filter, then ask his friends to keep moving beside him.

how much to buy the entire set of filter + holder?

Thanks man!!!

It is a very humbling experience, viewing through your thread. The effort, time, and tenacity shown through your collection of works is no small feat. Subscribing to see more.

About the filter and holder, there is a dedicated thread for that but I could not paste it because I am using mobile CS. I can give you here the price list of filters from TK photo:

I am happy to help you, but lets not expand this topic about filter inquiry in this thread. Please look for thst thread. :)

One more for the evening before I disappear again for the weekend. :) See ya!

Er, what do you mean the stitching together part? You mean making panoramas? You have to blend the exposures then you make the panorama in Photoshop using the built in photomerge tool. :) I have no plans to make a video tutorial on how to do DRI images as yet. :( And yes, the filters are purchased from tkfoto. You can check them out in Funan centre. Yeah, very very expensive. hahah

Thanks for dropping by emlee. Thanks for subscribing too. :) PS, I saw your work; very inspiring too. I should've started earlier before Punggol was taken down by a plethora of HDBs.

Hi, the place is called Teck Ghee Vista located along Ang Mo Kio Ave 1. :) It's just beside the newly opened Bishan Park. From where I live, bus 133 heads there. Let me know if you need coordinates or more info. :)

Pink Monday

5 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + ND 0.9x2 stacked to achieve 6 stops for smoothed water and cloud effects. Changi Beach, Singapore.

It's a long while since I've been there as the tides were low again. Amazing place, not much has changed. The sunrise was mediocre but was met with a pleasant change of intense pink. Wasn't so bad I guess.

There were people doing static exercises in the shed on the extreme right since I arrived at 6.30am. When I left at 7.30 they were still there. Had no other way to clone them out of the shot so had to include them without a choice.

Initial plans called for a 3 image panorama towards the left to include more rocks. However that didn't pan out well as that pink of hue in the clouds slowly died away and the tide was suddenly rising fast.

Didn't realize they are so expensive! guess these got to wait liao

Filters or not, the post technique is the same, but without someone guiding you, it can take a while to master.

You can start training to manually blend HDR layers as that process will take the same or longer amount of time as mastering the filters. You need some art sense as well as foresight to know what the final result will/should look like, before you start shooting/post process. At the beginning, you'll probably end up with 10-20+ images and if you don't know what you're doing... 30++ images. Whilst the actual blending may only use 3-7.

There's no set method of choosing which images to use, as it's up to you to create your own style. But the important points are, attention to detail, good/excellent sense of tonality and brightness, and knowing what the end result should look like. The journey is fun and frustrating, start now, not need to wait. :)

Thanks for the insightful post, foxtwo. :)

Blue Monday

3 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + GND 0.6 hard for higher tonality of the clouds + Lee Big Stopper for smoothed cloud and water effects. Changi Beach, Singapore.

Last shot from my visit to Changi Beach. Can't think of any other compositions other than this. As usual that moody metallic blue colour tone emitted by the Big Stopper creates unusual effects.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Awesome series!!!

Prefer this over pink Monday. Maybe bcoz there is less in this composition. Pink Monday seems a bit more scattered. I like the blue tone though!

Thanks for the insightful post, foxtwo. :)

I apologise for crashing in though :embrass:
