:) thanks fibredrive. I do manual blending in post for my photos too. Maybe someday I can play around with the big stopper.

HI!Can you give a detailed explanation on how you blend HDR images manually ?

Sorry guys, I took a short break as I have some errands to run during the course of my week. So therefore I didn't have time for my photography. But right now, I'm officially clearing all my offs and leave before I ORD. :)
PS, the weather don't seem promising these days too. Hopefully, all will change.

Awesome series!!!

Thanks for dropping by!! Please come again. :)

Prefer this over pink Monday. Maybe bcoz there is less in this composition. Pink Monday seems a bit more scattered. I like the blue tone though!

I've to agree bro, I admit I was a bit quick to setup as the sky was suddenly turning pink so fast, so I was like, "Oh crap, shoot now before it's gone!!" and I had lack of time finding a good compo, so I just setup everything as fast I could, and just shoot it. It's a bit generic that I can divulge. hahaha.

I apologise for crashing in though

Would you share your personal artistic motivations regarding your images, and the work required to get to the current level?

Hahaha, please I find that's completely normal. There's nothing wrong to give advise or say something you feel, it's supposed to be a relaxing experience to share. :D

Well my one goal in my photography is to outdo myself. What I've shot the last, I think I can do much better and find better ways to make the viewing experience more commendable. Another rule I employ is, a story in a photo. When I read the papers like Straits Times or TODAY every morning the headlines should "yell" at me, to get to point about what it is, so likewise my photos. If it does not have a "news headline" or a story of sort, it's not worth reading. The same analogy in my works... I mean, what's a movie without a script? :)

This might also sound weird but put technicality aside, like blur, hyperfocal distance (What's that exactly?), aperture, lens, filters, and etc first when composing your subject. You'll know more about your gear when you know more about your subjects. That's how I learn actually hahaha.

Lastly, you need to understand what you're shooting, what's unique to you and what or how you feel about this particular location you're in. You gotta loose yourself in the moment; you have know the subject, and in time you'll find its inner beauty. Which in turn, also have a trained eye to see things in a different perspective. Hope this helps!!

I agree, this guy has some awesome work too!!! :D Kudos Foxtwo!!!

HI!Can you give a detailed explanation on how you blend HDR images manually ?

Well you just have to make sure about this rule of thumb: Overexposed areas like the sky, use a lower stop exposure to compensate this (Filters can only do so much actually, this is to enhance it's tonality and contrast) and unexerposed areas like foreground subjects, i.e rocks, railings, tiles, etc. use a higher stop exposure to compensate this. Think of it as way of balancing the exposure. hahaha. And also, play around with the masking and gradient tools in Photoshop, trial and error and experiment - you'll get right in no time. Enjoy!!

more photo please

Coming!!! =)

The Twilight Stairs

4 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + f/16 for smoothed water effects (Wished it were much smoother though; no ISO 50 or ND 0.3/0.6). Singapore River, Singapore.

Back from taking a short break from shooting, also had some arrands to run during the course of the day. So I was neither here nor there.

Went out on one evening for a simple shoot, so was walking along I stumbled upon an old stair that leads to the river, seems pretty abandoned. Long ago the Singapore River was abundant with old river taxis, this is probably one of the stairs catered for them... Sunset wasn't really nice, but that blue hue was fantastic on cloudy days.

The shot would've been alot better if it weren't for that tree there. Initial plans also called for a 3 image pano to relief spatial tightness and include more of the shophouses on the right, but that didn't pan out too well and the skies were darkening fast. I thought maybe to include the river taxis' light trails but it too didn't pan out well as it was totally distracting, as I only want the buildings' light itself on the water.

The weather didn't seem promising these days too, hopefully all will clear within the next few days.

I think the weather will turning better soon. Yesterday can see the blue sky but alot cloud around 7.30pm , too bad just finished my work, cannot take any picture.

Beautifully controlled exposure as always! Nice detail on the cloudy sky as well. Unfortunately the composition does not work for me this time as the railing & staircase dominates the foreground & forms such a strong leading line towards the tree, which kind of distracts from the main subject that I presume to be the buildings in the background. But kudos as always for the effort to try to find a new perspective.

The haze is back it seems. :(

Thanks for the feedback, I agree with those rows of trees is a little difficult to shoot, not at all perfect. I hate what I did in fact. :( LOL. Thanks for dropping by!!

Directional Mess

2 Image HDR/DRI + f16 stop for smoothed traffic effects. River Valley Road, Singapore.

After finished shooting I was heading to take the NEL train line home, when I stumbled upon this magnificent junction. I've never had a chance to photograph this part of the city before, so I thought of giving a try.

In fact, I was looking for a shot that kinda summarises my life right now; pretty much non-directional, I have an aim, but I foresee and might pursue other interests I enjoy... I see that rainbow as the goal at end of my journey but detours and other aims in life distract your true calling to get there.

Yea I shot this some time back from a similar low angle. Just that I aligned the main entrance to be parallel to my camera. I like how the yellow box line leads to the building.

Out My Window

5 Image HDR/DRI with no filters. Bedok Estates, Singapore.

View was recommended by a friend of mine, so I decided to pay a visit. When I looked out to see, this has been taken by others before I recalled. So I tried my own rendition to see how it will fare. Thought of giving it a frame by the balcony would be good.

Pretty dull morning too, the colours all seem to have a very monotonic hue of yellow when shot. I desaturated the warmth a little to suit the style I like most often employed.

There was also a halo around the sun when the shot was taken.

The End Days I Desire

3 Image HDR/DRI 2 image panorama to relief spatial tightness using GND 0.9 soft + GND 0.6 hard for higher tonality of the skies + ND 0.9 for smoothed water effects. Upper Seletar Reservoir, Singapore.

Can't believe I only went there for just this shot. I thought the sunset would be abysmal today. But I was wronged. It was magical. All that rainy days that drenched all over the island have finally paid off with a nice, simple carefree sunset.

Hi Stefan,

I'm newbie for HDR, and I like it most especially your works. I alway producing unrealistic HDR images and don't know what is the problem. Would you mind to share how many EV different for each image is the best to produce realistic HDR? it would be glad if you able to share some of your HDR processing setting. Thanks!

Hey there, I'm glad you asked. :)

Blending of your images actually takes alot of time and patience. You may probably want to look up at some tutorials on how to actually blend images and find what works best for you. For me, I use the gradient and masking tools to mask out the areas that need some exposure increase/decrease with another higher stop. It's basically layering work if I may add. I always use around 3 - 5 images for most of my blending. :)

Maybe this post might share some light: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/digi...-post-processing-pictures-20.html#post7641619

Bishan's Magenta

4 Image HDR/DRI using GND 0.9 soft + ND 0.9 x2 stacked to achieve 6 stops for smoothed cloud effects. Bishan Estates, Singapore.

Went back there as I predict I might see the sun rising in between the two condominiums. But, there was no sun and I thought I wasted my effort travelling again - Chances are, it was similiar to my previous shot at Upper Seletar. I was greeted with a strong hue of pink and magenta - the whole sky tuned pink all of a sudden. This is the actual pink as seen. Lasted for a whole 2 minutes I recalled.

Will come back again one of the coming weeks to investigate the sun path.

Hello Stefan,

When you stacked 3 filters do you get heavy vignette on each sides?

A little bit. But that can be fixed easily by blending another higher exposure or simply duplicate the layer in photoshop and adjust its brightness prior to using the gradient tool to blend across the frame. :)
