I have been using MaxOnline since the SCV years under Student Plan of S$56/month, accounting up to 8 years this Friday, using the same modem I received 8 years ago, and still function as great.
Benefits of using SCV MO:
- Near true dedicated connection
- Connect via a dedicated cable modem; no interference with telephone line
- SCV have premier knowledge in broadband internet in SG
- Fastest residential internet (DL) connection speed
- No pre-connection prompt; dedicated, so disrupt-free connection
- Easy configuration with routers and DIY servers
Disadvantages:
- High maintainance fees
- Not entirely true dedicated connection; shared connection may be undesirable in high-density areas, like high-rise apartments, although speed will not fall below acceptable standards for broadband internet.
- Unattractive promotion freebies.
I wun know about SCV being first to serve broadband to home users. Singtel Magix is the first in sg to offer broadband as far as i remember. Singnet because my family has staff rate ;p . But seriously, singnet will be more expensive in the long run. remembered when i signed my line 2 years (512mb), it was $58 i think. now it's like so much cheaper and higher decidated speed at a cheaper price. and remember that you're bonded to the line for 2 years. whether it's worth it or not, it's up to personal preferences. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: btw my line is up too! and i'm continueing with singnet. =)

Did you know whichever DSL vendor you select they are the same infrastructure? you can use a SingNet DSL id and password on a PacNet DSL circuit and it will still work. Most of the problems are copper wire degrade or increased SNR due to wire aging etc...
If in above situation better off to go with Cable as they are newer infrastructure, but the down side is that it is a shared infrastructure, I still preferred DSL over Cable, been using both PacNet and SingNet toggling between the two, whichever vendor gives me better value at the time of contract renewal, I go with them.

haha... yeah, I'm still paying $58 for my plan now. Just check with SingNet, if dont want freebies (ie. ethernet modem), can sign the contract for 1 year instead.Koelsch said:

My Singet BB 512K is expiring this coming April. Currently, I'm paying ard $68. If my contract ends, does it mean that I'll pay the prevailing rate of $48 for 512K or will they still bill me as $68/mth. Of course, I have the option of paying $38/mth after my contract ends but that will mean I need to recontract for 2 years and that it is long!
My opinion is to continue at $48/mth without contract and maintain a "wait-n-see" for a few months to observe the trend in pricing. Or do you guys think that $38/mth for 2 years is an irresistable offer?
What about Qala that you guys have been talking about. I've also heard about wi-max services being rolled out soon. Does it mean I can surf wirelessly anywhere? How soon would that be? 1 years time?

I've been renewing with Singnet by signing 12-month contracts only, each time going for the cheapest 12-month contract. This tactic lets me enjoy doubling in speed every year while paying same or reduced fee. However, this may not work for you depending on your usage pattern.
