Finally fixed the screen in.
Mine is massively dusty with spots all over
Btw, when inserting the screen, with camera upside down, should the tab face left or right? I inserted it with tab facing right, but focus now is a bit off.
Hi Prince,
Although this subject is long over, I like to share if others are considering changing their focusing screen.
The illustrations from FocusingScreen show the camera in upright position when inserting the screen. You need not hold the camera upside down. By doing so, you invite dusts resting on the glass/prism and these dusts will trap itself between glass/prism & screen later.
Although dusts will not affect image, but it can be irritating.
I found a novel way to avoid dust when installing the screen. I am fortunate to use a car, see picture.
Preferably the seats covering are leather or vinyl as fabric seat covers attract dusts. With 2 trays on the back of the front seats, I can use them for putting my camera face down after removing the original screen and other stuffs.
I sat in the back seat with a/c running and waited for 10-15 minutes for dust to be sucked by the a/c. Something like a improvised clean room.
After putting the screen in position, I did not use the supplied rubber finger clots, instead I used the tweezers with both ends closed, gently pressed the screen bracket of the camera which clicks back properly.
I installed the FSL 45 deg Split Image type and it is clear & clean. If anyone likes to install their screen the same way as I have done, can send PM to me for arrangement.
Below are examples of pics (enlarge 100%) taken with DFA 100mm/2.8 w/o tripod and manual focus. Not forgetting battling the wind.
