Speedlite 600EX-RT

by the way how much did yours cost?

how long can a flash last? my 4-5 yr 580EXII still going strong... dun think i will get it so soon.

:) no point getting the 600EX if you don't need the wireless-sync feature. I even have fellow photographer friends who are still on 550EX and 580EX.

agreed, especially if you already have a set of wireless triggers and transmitters :)

I got mine as i find The wireless sync will be very useful for portraits and other street shoots. So now my 580EX II has become the 'slave'.

It would be better if the body can trigger the flash rather than buy another thing to trigger the flash.
i noe i noe.... canon wanna suck my money.

But your 580EXII still on optical wireless trigger :P

I own a 580EX2, 430EX, and ST-E2... at times I'll use both speedlites as slave controlled via ST-E2. Even when I don't need flash I still have my ST-E2 mounted on my 1D for focus assist. Its very convenient to have such a small and light device. Too bad the new ST does not have focus-assist lights anymore... bummer.

Come to think of it, Canon introduced their first in-body wireless master on the 7D... which is an optical wireless trigger. Few years later they introduced RF wireless system which renders the 7D's wireless master pointless. :bsmilie: Pretty sure 7D Mark II will have the wireless master built into the camera body.

With wireless triggers, it is very likely that Canon future EOS bodies will have wireless master feature, even on 5D/1D. :)

I know it only have optical triggering, hence the 600EX-RT has to be fired as well. But that's very fine for me since i need more light sources occasionally. I don't need any ST-E2 or E3 though.

Agree...but I just took the plunge on the 600EX-RT even though less than 3 mths. Look at 5D MK III now, got light-leaking issues.

I think you bought it when it is not even 3 weeks old... lol.......

5D3.... especially, new body... better to be safe and get it later...

5D mirror drop problem....

24-105 initial problem....

Just better to buy later batches lor....

As long as you do not overcook your flashes, they should last a long while....

My 420EX is still working.... 8-10 yrs maybe......

The wireless function is really useful...... I can stay on my current set up.... but the RT does offer a solution to some of my current system lacks, and that itself is a good reason to hoot.......

They should make the STE3 with focus light assist... one problem with the STE2 is the battery..... troublesome....

The 5D3 do not have the power to fire the flashes right???

don't mind, can elaborate how the wireless function helps in what you shoot, that the previous set up of flash + pocket wizards cannot provide? :)

sorry ah, I am still learning on flashes :)

Oh... I am using ST-E2 with flashes, and no pocket wizards.... so I have situation I cannot fire the flash cos no optical line of sight............

ohh that one no choice lah :(

Haha...my 5D's mirror never dropped out previously and was replaced with end stoppers FOC by Canon's request. Until now...still problem-free. So far all my photography equipment are problem-free so hope it remains that way.

The 420EX was my very first speedlite! :D

Good for you.... but I am still awaiting more reviews, but not much on the 600EX RT... and hope to see how they perform before going for it........

Mine too.... but I was very new to flash then, and I did not use it that much... I used it recently, and I like that it save power without a LCD....
