I already have a 430EX and 580EXII and still thinking of this one for my light travel.

Yeah! good for traveling, small n cute. should be good enough to fill light.

Makes sense to get one for travel if this baby sells for under 200.

Dun think can use this baby on 5D, as there is no button for setting.

The only button is on/off and pilot.

yea, won't be able to use the manual flash setting, but ETTL shouldn't be a problem.

Nevermind la, think i will just get it.. Woohoo!!

Anyone know when will it be selling in singapore?

Yea. :/
Anyone have any ideas?

This website says it is going to be available early May.

However, the pricing looks a little steep. I think it won't be cheaper than the 220 EX. Probably in the vicinity of $250 upwards, I suppose. For about $300+ you can get some serious Canon flashes.

I am not sure how much better vs the Sunpak RD2000 though. It is more powerful but at an estimated price of $250, the Sunpak is selling at about $110 (~50% less) and lighter, smaller and can swivel 90deg as well.

So is it worth spending that extra ~$150 on that extra 7 Guide No.?

It is interesting to see how this turns out. Personally, I am tempted to just buy the Sunpak and save my extra $150 or so to spend on 580 EXII or Metz 54 MZ4i or an extra battery.

This is from a 5D/5D2 perspective ofcourse. For G9/G10 owners, a slightly more powerful flash in a similarly small package is almost God sent.

Interesting. If the 270EX is priced @ $250, then would it make sense to pay $150 more to get 430EX II? assuming the 430 drops to $400 from the current $430. Then again, if I only make use of the benefits the 430EX II has over the 270EX once a year, then it's $150 for that one session and that won't be practical. Guess I'll have a good think about it in due time. Hopefully prices will drop further by the time I decide :)

Don't think 430EXII price will drop.

As for which flash to buy if you're starting from zero, my advise is get the 580EXII straight and don't have to worry about upgrading especially if you don't plan to get another flash for a while, or at least get the 430EXII. For me, I already have the 430 EX and 580EXII so this will be just for travel since my 5DII fits in my working bag and the270EX gives me the lease weight but still able to use flash if i need to, the other drawside to this flash is you can't use any kind of diffuser on it.

With the GN at 27, you really don't want to make it work harder than it needs to even if someone comes up with a diffuser (I am sure someone definitely will very soon)

so true... but people will still prefer to pay Gary Fong $90 for a plastic cover call Puffer Frog or something...

:bsmilie: I guess for some, whether you can or cannot take good pics, style is the most important.

What's that's for man...?! A not here nor there flash.

Personally, I think it goes well with a compact like G10.

Yeah, quite likely pre-flash for AF assist. Think the old film EOS30/33 film camera built-in flash used this method too.

To use it on a DSLR is just so... lame. There's already a built-in flash on the xxxD and xxD flash. Who would pay another expected >S$200 more for a puny flash just so you can bounce but with limited guide number? Might as well pay a bit more and get a much more powerful and versatile 400 series flash.

As for the higher end cams, like 5D and 1D series, oh man... dun even talk about it! If you can afford such an expensive and relatively bulky cam, dun tell me your reason for buying this flash is cos you have little cash left, or you want to move around just that bit lighter and dun mind compromising on flash quality when you really need it!

Another Canon marketing.... It's time the engineers from the flash department talked amicably with their camera body department. Are they enemies? Incorporate IR communication between cam and flash without any gimmicky ST-E2!

Maybe Canon is making a quick buck out of unsuspecting newbies in this economy crisis by selling their looks-fun-but-limited use mini external flash. *tongue-in-cheek comment*

What a disappointment. I would grab if for my 1 series camera as a fill flash for travel if has the additional function to use near infra beam and not the irritating pre-flash. Look stupid when you use pulsating flash on people, esp with a pro-cam.

To me, the only thing that would make it better than the RD2000 is the flashes ability to do high speed sync. Very useful if you need to do fill flash in very bright background lighting conditions. Or fast action flash use, which I would much prefer using the 580EXII instead. :dunno:

Other than that, I do think that the RD2000 is stronger in everything else that one can ask for in a compact flash kit.

You guys are correct that it goes well with a compact; aside from a 400D I also bring along an S5 IS and it is nice to have a limited video capability sometimes. I also just recently met a friend who bought is G10 and after lending it to him appreciated having a small external flash.

It is quite light and pocketable, compared to the 430/580EX. Very handy for travel.

Compared to the built-in fill flashes, the bounce capability is something that is well appreciated at this price point.

My older cameras could not utilize the pre-flash focusing feature...instruction manual said that a software upgrade may be needed.

And speaking of price points, I got mine along the orchard area for only 200 sgd, GST inclusive. That less than half the price of the 430EX II. I had to hunt it down though as many stores are out of stock and word on the street is that only a limited number were initially released to stores in Singapore.

As a cheap/small/backup flash, I humbly feel that it fills its niche rather nicely :)
