You guys are correct that it goes well with a compact; aside from a 400D I also bring along an S5 IS and it is nice to have a limited video capability sometimes. I also just recently met a friend who bought is G10 and after lending it to him appreciated having a small external flash.

It is quite light and pocketable, compared to the 430/580EX. Very handy for travel.

Compared to the built-in fill flashes, the bounce capability is something that is well appreciated at this price point.

My older cameras could not utilize the pre-flash focusing feature...instruction manual said that a software upgrade may be needed.

And speaking of price points, I got mine along the orchard area for only 200 sgd, GST inclusive. That less than half the price of the 430EX II. I had to hunt it down though as many stores are out of stock and word on the street is that only a limited number were initially released to stores in Singapore.

As a cheap/small/backup flash, I humbly feel that it fills its niche rather nicely :)

so it's out? which store did you go too?

i guess it has it's uses. at 200bucks it's pretty reasonable despite it's limitations isnt it. =)

i'll keep an eye out for it later. update you in the evening if i manage to find places that sell, since im gonna be out lookin for a dry cabinet. =P

No swivel though.

No ceiling means no bounce...unless you shoot portrait format instead of landscape to bounce from a wall.

I don't have an umbrella or reflector:confused:

Pre-flash or not, it's good travel-size! I'm liking mine .. No need to lug around the 580EX-II on vacation anymore (click on pics for access to larger image sizes):

Me too.

Being a newbie I was hesitant about diving straight to the 430EX II. This new 270EX looks like a great option for me to start with, and I can always use it as a spare when I eventually upgrade.

Fingers crossed that we can get it around $210...

If I'm reading this correctly, the 450D is not compatible with this?

download the latest firmware and update your 450D, the latest one is compatible with 270EX.

how bout in 1000d? is it compatible? or need to dwnoad frmware also? thanks

Called CP-M yesterday, was told the price is 230, but 'out of stock'. Then when asked about when will have stock, he claimed it depends on Canon SG.
Staff at MS do not know what is 270 EX....

can it be use on a 5Dmk1?

Usually, such stuff are backward compatible unless specifically mentioned. Think you can check the list off Canon's website.
