Not sure bout both cams as i dun own them but the A95 is a huge monster considering that consumer cams are so damn small these days.

You need a tripod if you switch off the flash in the evenings or night unless you got very stable hands or place it on a table or something. If you use the flash, then there is no need for one i guess.

I have recently got a W1. The manual controls are a little less than the Canon A series which I used to have but still more than enough to take a good night shots.

Any blurring will be caused by your hand shaking, not the camera. It will also be blur whatever camera you use. So, for night shots, the camera must be placed on a tripod or any stable surface.

:)

AFAIK, a40's manual mode can allow user to set the shutter time (no restrictions) plus the aperture (only smallest or largest). does that mean w5's manual control allows even less?

The W1 (should be same as W5) manual settings are unrestricted shutter time and smallest/highest aperture adjustment.

I remember my old Canon A70 I could adjust the aperture too in a few increments instead of just highest/lowest.

Although not full manual controls, but it is enough for you to take good night shots with the W5.

:)

that means you were talking about the a70 and not the a40, hahaha. a40's manual mode is similar to w1's - either smallest or biggest. but w1/5 will tell you how underexposed or overexposed (by how many ev) it is when you half press the shutter.

and yup, i agree that it is good enough already. especially since the small lens (compared to prosumers and dslrs) are restrictive anyway.

hmm..so where is thebest place to get the camera at the best price ar?
think i might go for this
