Sony Vegas Pro help needed

Hi, I'm new to video editing and have read up a little on how to use Sony Vegas Platinum 9.0. To begin with, I used Cineform NeoSCENE to convert my Canon 7D MOV video files into AVI and import them into Sony Vegas Platinum 9.0.

At the end of having everything ready for export, which option should I choose?

Project --> Render as --> ??? (should I be saving it as WMV, or AVI, or something? What about the compression???)

Btw, the video was shot with a Canon 7D in 1920x1080 @ 25p. Which option should I select to maintain it at the best resolution (1) for viewing on the PC; and (2) for uploading to vimeo/youtube?

Thanks

I suggest you render as wmv, 1280x720, 25 fps, which will play well on a pc and is also suitable for upload to yt and vimeo. 5et the bitrate to 4 or 5 Mbps.

You can get slightly better results using a different codec such as h.264, but wmv is a good starting point. Dont bother trying to maintain full HD resolution unless you are burning to bluray disc. The playback on pc will not be so smooth.

Thanks for the suggestion. 1280x720, 25fps looks good after rendering, except for the colours which does not seem as vivid as it was shot on originally on the MOV file. Any idea if I had missed out anything that resulted in the 'duller' colours of the video?

I cant seem to maintain a full HD resolution even after trying to render a FULL HD file using 52Gb. The video is super slow motion, although the music plays 'normally'.

Since I am going to be saving it and uploading it at 1280x720, does this mean i should also be recording it on my 7D camera at "1280x720, 50fps" in the first place?

Thanks!

There is probably a colour space difference between the original mov clips and the final wmv file. you might be able to correct for this in Vegas.

If you have the option to shoot 720p to begin with, it will reduce the rendering time. but be careful if you are using a 7D, because its 720 mode has a lot of aliasing problems. anyway, it is worth trying a short test shoot and seeing whether there is any quality drop.

Thanks jaegersing!

If you're rendering for Youtube or Vimeo, use the Sony AVC presets. It's Sony's own H.264 codec and it works very well in both x86 and x64 versions of Vegas. There's 1280 x720 preset in there and it's easy enough to amend and save a 1920 *1080 50i version.

Stick to PAL 50i or 25p. the 7D footage doesn't lend itself to a 24fps conversion.
