Sony service standard has slacken

one other thing to remember is that the KM5D is an old camera. Chances are, they had to request for a part from overseas.

Yupe I think servicing the Minolta 5D & 7D might be a pain in the neck for SONY... I sent my 7D in about a week ago already... I'll probably call them to check... I need it on Fri to cover a school event actually... hahahaha... talk about desperate... I was adviced that cleaning the sensor, viewfinder screen, plus troubleshooting for the red cast (I posted earlier) and the false reporting of battery voltage (7D grip) would cost be S$150!!! Wow!!! Well... if it works out, I won't mind paying the $150 though... the battery issue is quite disturbing... could be down to old batteries although the last set I bought was in 2007... not used heavily... although each time I shoot I run through 6 battery packs over course of 1 to 2 weeks... and I have 6 batteries so it means each battery gets used about once on each shoot...:dunno:

Hopefully I get a positive tomorrow... can collect... but must pay ERP charges leh... piangz!

sent my A700 on a wed nite, got it back on mon nite.... quite fast and problem seems solved.

also, the staff are quite friendly though they are generally not really versed in the cam....

however, this period seems quite busy for them, judging from the notice they placed on their operating hours during this month (d&d, CNY, etc..)

TME, good luck. Hope u get it soon....and u can always park somewhere with no erp or wait til after 8pm. (they close at 9 anyway...)

Take Bus/MRT for a change? :sticktong

Lawson, ask for the manager. speaking to engineer or his senior is useless. fire those lazy engineers.

bring your laptop and your reddest clothes/flower/etc down. take a pic of it and show him on your laptop (that's assuming your laptop has a bigger screen than your camera lcd haha :bsmilie:) ....

under warrenty???

Well... I picked up the camera on Thur... shot with it on Fri morning in the shade...

A bit displeased with the SSC service, but must check with them next Wed when they reopen...

I sent the camera and the 17-35mm lens in for the following services...

1) Clean viewfinder & sensor (lots of dust, fungus even)
2) Clean lens, remove broken glass & check for de-centering (I dropped the lens one year ago)
3) Check the red cast (you've seen this one)
4) Check the fault with the vertical grip (my camera keep reporting batteries are flat when using the grip, even when I use 6 AA NiMH batteries which are fully charged)...

On Fri, I noticed that...

1) This is fixed. But I still see some stuff at the edge of the viewfinder (not sure what that is... no time to find out)
2) Seems to be fixed.
3) Can't find the fault... it's quite obvious I thought but I need to go to Tuas to explain to the techie I guess...
4) No report on this one... my camera still reports flat batteries... quite pissed with this... I have to switch off the camera, and switch it back on, then I get a full battery report status... this drops to half-full within 5-10 shots... when the camera goes to sleep or just idle (not yet sleeping), when I press the shutter button to light up the LCD screen, the camera says the batteries are exhausted... BUT, I can insert the batteries into the body and they are pretty fine...

My BIGGEST GRIPE about SSC???

1) The counter staff is pretty incompetent technically... so he doesn't know what I am talking about... I refer in particular to the guy who seems more senior (smooth faced chap with thick eyebrows, don't know his name)... what's more annoying is that he was not communicative, didn't tell me he was listening to me listing the faults I want checked, nor did he take down in detail the faults... when I checked the service chit, there were only 3 lines on it. I would have thought if you didn't understand a word of what I said, you would take down what I said word-for-word and send it to the techie... the techie had to call me to check, cos he obviously didn't understand what the service chit said...

2) I don't know why there is nothing mentioned about the vertical grip in the repair invoice... but I shall call next Wed to find out... I'm quite annoyed...

I wonder if KM customers are 2nd class???

Yr Km7D and grip i think i nearing the end of it lifespan
how long since u have them?

Well since 2005 I think... about 3.5 years? I think I picked it up in Apr 2005? I really cannot remember... can always check my first post when I put in my name on the 7D list...

End of lifespan, then they should tell me lar... anyway the body is still good... I have no issues with that... it's the grip... the battery situation is driving me nuts... the red cast is easily solved PP unless the capture was poor...

Well, you also need to consider that the amount of spare parts for the KM stuff is a finite supply.

On a side note, have you cleaned the contacts on the grip?

I actually sent it in for them to check the grip... so I guess they would have cleaned it as a first measure... and yes, I do clean the contacts... actually I hardly remove the grip from the body... so the grip to body contacts are still actually shiny... as for the battery contacts, they still look good, I've cleaned them lots of times... it should not result in such dire battery life...

i went to te service centre earlier today to ask about diagnosing and repairing my 7D's grip and the customer service guy was quite patient wit me while i explain to him what i am experiencing. and he patiently told me the cost to have it diagnosed and labour fees and such. in the end i decided not to send it in and leave my grip as for now and he didn't show any sign of impatient and smiled while i left.
i guess its sometimes up to each individual's experience with them. overall i haven had any problem with them. the only complain i have is their speed. :bsmilie:

Are there Sony service centre inside CBD area or nearest around the zone?

Hey yokechye, what's the problem with your grip??

Hey yokechye, what's the problem with your grip??
very sad... the grip cannot read the np400 battries correctly. when i inserted them into my grip, and switch my 7d body on, it starts to AF eventhough i nv press on anything. the left side menu buttons and the rest, most buttons cannot press. nothing will happen. except for shutter button, ael, 4 way buttons and the dials and scrolls.

i tried inserting my other batteries also the same. inserting 1 battery on left, then tried on right, still the same.

what fustrates me is that when i use the AA battery tray with the 6 AAs, it works fine!

i was thinking with the aging electronic part..sony won't be able to provide servicing in the coming future
Now with Konica Minolta only deal in copier machines, there will be no more replacment parts made ever again...
