Hmmmm the RX100 mk2 is 999. for $500 more you get additional dust and moisture sealing, constand f2.8, more customization, SSM, newer processor , evf, amongst others... And not see how the price increase is quite justifiable?

So what will be a good price for this camera? :think:

Isn't the RX10 marketed as a "bridge" camera? So it's not a PnS, nor is it a DSLR..it's a bridge camera
There aren't many bridge camera in the market to compare it with now is there...hehe..

i meant it as "As compared to the RX100 mk2", not "as compared to the rest of the market". that's when you're comparing it to the rest of the RX series and why it's more expensive than those.

Tested the RX10 at Sony's showroom and was impressed with the general IQ. Jpec images at wide open at various focal lengths were incredibly sharp, contrasty and very well balanced color as compared to my NEX 5N/CV58f1.4 shot in raw and processed in CS5 to my liking. I love everything about this camera except the size, especially the large diameter of the lens and the price.

I personally think its video performance with full pixel read out warrants its price tag to a certain extent considering camcorders with small little sensors cost almost as much. It's more like jack of all trade camera. True that cameras with biggger sensors do all it does too but not many does it as well as it does especially in the video department. Tested it many times , Just a little on the heavy side for me.

Same here. the RX100ii has it's strengths which made me open my wallet. The price of the RX10 though , can definitely drop a bit to make it more value for money. Yeap, we all know the good sensor size and constant f etc , but the overall price , still too high to make it a reasonable buy.

Ok bros, here's some shots taken. Mostly are handheld except the pics and vid in NJC are on a monopod. I used A mode with f2.8, and for dark pics, mainly on centre metering. Apologise for the metering hunting in the video as I forgot to change it to multi-metering. All of the pics are on ISO Auto and jpeg extra fine. Really love the versatility the camera offers and some features are rather cool too. Will elaborate later. In the meantime, do comment on the image quality you see. I'm not a pro, so paiseh for my mediocre skills

I own both the Rx100 and the Rx10. You can't compare them side by side just because they share the same sensor. Their lenses are worlds apart and the CZ lens in the RX10 is excellent. It's sharp and the colors are brilliant. Taking into account the range, constant f2.8 and the fact that it's a CZ lens, I would say that the lens itself already justify the price. I can safely say this could possibly be the only camera that most people need.

My only 2 complaints abut the RX10 are that the EVF is too small and no touch screen. It's straining for the eye to look through the small EVF and I actually got a headache after a couple of shots.
Sony's AF is not the fasted or the most accurate esp in low light and at the long end of the lens. Their menu is also not the most friendly. A touch screen like Oly would certainly help in both departments and there is no reason why Sony can't come out with one by now since they are always pushing the envelope in terms of technology.

SO you're saying it is RX100 mk II that is overpriced? But then again, sony has always positioned themselves as premium brand. Same with their VAIO laptops.

Anyway I am waiting for the RX200 which I assume will be in between the RX100II and RX10 at around $1299....

Was initially impressed by the Sony RX10 when I tried it in the show room. Big zoom range Zeiss lens ƒ2∙8 constant.
However, when I checked the photos shared here, I realise that something is seriously missing in the results from what the RX10 can do.
This is a reflection solely on the RX10 camera as a product, not the owners/photographers who have so kindly shared the photos here.
The RX10 photos have no life. They are flat and dead. To be fair, cannot expect too much from a 24mm to 200mm zoom.
I think there are too many trade-offs in the design. For the price SRP $1,600, you can get much better camera + lens combinations elsewhere.

e.g. I think the Sony RX100 (model 1) is good. Or Olympus OM-D E-M5 + 25mm ƒ1∙8 is good.

But you don't get a 200mm shot. So u can't say u can get a better camera+lens combination elsewhere. Better is subjective.

The thing that is missing is Post Processing.
Spend 1 sec to trigger the shutter, and spend 1h to process it.

Images tend to look flat out of camera.
With processing, even a compact camera can get u a wonderful image. Just look at Flickr.

yea to me the rx100 mk2 is overpriced for a compact camera. The RX200 sounds interesting with a fast lens though...hopefully the price can be more "down to earth"
