Hmm why not this.
official sample video from Sony.

So how many people are aiming for this?

I don't think it can replace my Nex7 for travel use, but it looks very very attractive for a walkabout camera.
I'm actually considering one since it looks more compact than a Nex7 + CZ 24mm, and is quieter. For travel I could carry nex7 + a zoom, together with this. Maybe even just a RX100 with its 28-100. :)
If the RX1 has a wide angle adapter option (like the Nex 16mm add-on), that would probably seal it for me.

I'm probably in the minority but I do not mind the price and no EVF/OVF. To some extent I like it that VF is optional.
I also don't mind the fixed lens so much, but feel at this cost it's abit of a waste if the lens is unable to be salvaged.
If I do keep it for 5 years, wonder if there would be a way to take the lens to convert to some mount. :P
Otherwise the camera will probably have been depreciated to zero.

For a 'compact' FF setup, I'm quite happy with my canon 5D + 40mm pancake lens combo. Aesthetically it sucks, weight-wise still tips the scale at about 1kg. But it fits into a small camera bag and the IQ is excellent.

The RX1 is quite ex. Cos still have to factor in the rather expensive accessories, like OVF/EVF, leather case, strap, thumbs up etc. I mean, if you spend almost $4k on this, surely one would not hold back on 'zhnging' or pimping it up right? That means another $1k probably unless you dun need the OVF/EVF.

But never say never. This RX1 looks really poisonous.

My parent and wife will killed me if they know i go and spend $4k on this what they called "Toy". But still after the review.. and the video(dang i love it) i think i just bought the 16-50mm (SELP1650) with my Nex-7 and that will be enough for travel. It compact and light compare to DSLR

I'll wait for RX2 or RX10... The RX100 is enough for daily use and versatility, for more serious stuff there are many cameras other than RX1.

I agree. This rx1 is one that makes one goes ooh ahh at first. After considering the price, one will say nahh nahh. The more reviews one see and seeing the live demo at the shops. I am sure many may heck and carry the baby Home lol

I just saw the photo samples of the Nikon D600 with the same 24 mp sensor and one can imagine what IQ we can get out of the specially calibrated fixed zeiss lens on the RX1.

Yup. That's why people loved the old R1 - that Zeiss lens was perfectly calibrated for the sensor, and the sensor microlens array was optimized for that one lens.

I loved the R1 and I still miss it.

Hi Anthony, as much as I would love to have this camera, the price is a bit steep to say the least. BTW your former Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS is just wonderful - sorry for the OT. :-)

Hi Ramiesh, I feel like selling everything just to get the RX1.

World first fullframe compact: ) collectors edition material

Wah the RX1 is small. Lens a little big and its a fixed lens. Some compromise but attractive. Can still get for portrait and general use.

I think this is good walk-about and general purpose camera great for those family outings etc. The focal length is just nice... but the price is a bit exp...

I am just thinking :

E-M5 / EP-3 with 17mm f2.8 / 20mm f1.7 is 4/3 sensor size, with interchangeable lens - about $2.5k
RX1 with 135 FF sensor and fixed 35 f2 lens - about $3.5k
I think size about the same

Is paying 1K difference worth it for the FULL-FRAME sensor alone?

Yes. D cheapest FF DSLR with a lens easily costs u 4k plus. Not to mention d size of it. Also if compared to Leica M FF bodies, RX1 is a steal. Tat is if u really need FF cams.

Guess its a matter of value. For peeps that loved to have a compact camera with full frame sensor. They may say its ok.

Price point wise, the RX1 is competing with other FF alternatives. There are obviously no other products in the market in the moment that match the specs, so we are talking abt Leica M9/10 with a 35mm cron attached (no AF, more expensive), or Dslr options (much bulkier, price wise not cheaper or roughly similar price range).

So while the RX1 could be considered expensive, it's a fair price. In fact, one could argue that the small form factor, a bit of an engineering marvel, is worth a hefty premium. Moreover as with many new products, the makers will set initial pricing high to recover R&D costs and to milk the eager early adopters who are most willing to pay the most. Those who are keen but don't want to pay so much can choose to wait for the product's life cycle to mature n prices to come down. I probably belong to the latter category...but the temptation is strong.

$3.5k may be too ex. But i might seriously consider if its <$3k. If the noise performance is as good or better than the excellent 16MP sensor from Sony. 35mm on FF is just right for me. Literally useful for me for everything less wildlife close up. Its very small and light too. Max shutter speed is 1/2000 though. But should be ok for my usage too.
