For a 'compact' FF setup, I'm quite happy with my canon 5D + 40mm pancake lens combo. Aesthetically it sucks, weight-wise still tips the scale at about 1kg. But it fits into a small camera bag and the IQ is excellent.
The RX1 is quite ex. Cos still have to factor in the rather expensive accessories, like OVF/EVF, leather case, strap, thumbs up etc. I mean, if you spend almost $4k on this, surely one would not hold back on 'zhnging' or pimping it up right? That means another $1k probably unless you dun need the OVF/EVF.
But never say never. This RX1 looks really poisonous.

I just saw the photo samples of the Nikon D600 with the same 24 mp sensor and one can imagine what IQ we can get out of the specially calibrated fixed zeiss lens on the RX1.
Yup. That's why people loved the old R1 - that Zeiss lens was perfectly calibrated for the sensor, and the sensor microlens array was optimized for that one lens.

Hi Anthony, as much as I would love to have this camera, the price is a bit steep to say the least. BTW your former Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS is just wonderful - sorry for the OT.![]()

E-M5 / EP-3 with 17mm f2.8 / 20mm f1.7 is 4/3 sensor size, with interchangeable lens - about $2.5k
RX1 with 135 FF sensor and fixed 35 f2 lens - about $3.5k
I think size about the same
Is paying 1K difference worth it for the FULL-FRAME sensor alone?

TWmilkteaTW said:$3.5k may be too ex. But i might seriously consider if its <$3k. If the noise performance is as good or better than the excellent 16MP sensor from Sony. 35mm on FF is just right for me. Literally useful for me for everything less wildlife close up. Its very small and light too. Max shutter speed is 1/2000 though. But should be ok for my usage too.
