Geez, what's happened to this place? I've been checking in occasionally for the past few years, and the exchanges were always cordial. We're all on the same side, guys... eagerly waiting to get our hands on an RX1 for tryout or purchase. So let's chill a bit and get back in the end-of-year festive mood. Peace.

Not from Sony as far as I know.

I highly recommend those that have the RX1 to buy a good filter. This is not a cheap camera and since the lens is not interchangeable any damage to the lens is going to be a real PITA. I will even recommend buying the original Sony hood to go along as expensive as it is.

The case for the original hood vs third party:

1. The original hood uses the hood mount on the lens itself, it is behind the lens. Cutting down on the possibility of vignetting.
2. The original hood will fit into the original full case when mounted.
3. Third party hoods normally screw into the filter thread. If you have a filter and a screw on hood you are adding about 1cm of barrel to the lens in front of the lens.

Of course the difference is about $20 compared to $200+.

Got the metal lens hood (feels solid) for less than $10 from ebay.
For this kind of price i can live with the above limitation (if any).

No matter how great the camera, it is still a very limited market. Once the initial demand is met there will be plenty of stock every where.

The hood is expensive. if can afford and dont mind the price, then can buy la. Leica hoods are damn ex too! Its all relative.
Question is, do u really need the hood?

No point debating on the price. If it dont work for you. Then dont buy it. Or wait for discount or price drop.

Would rather see more useful post like the good and bad of the camera... or even posting of which shop have stock and how much are they going..these would be so much more useful.
