Well NiMH can't beat the Li ion for power BUT they are much cheaper. And with improving technology that allow their rating to go higher and higher, they are still a relatively good workhorse.

I think a Li ion AA batt will cost many times the price of a NiMH one, so no point right?

Saw the one time use Energizer E2 Lithium Battery at NTUC. A 4-pack version and on the pack it say "Buy 3 get 1 free" So I asked the cashier to check thte price at who would guess it cost $10.90 vs the 2-pack at $9.90. Pay extra $1 and get 4 batteries.

Will try it out soon to see how long they last.

Oh SMART ALEX, how about telling us what's the latest in Battery Technology, other than Li-Ion battery?

Really? Even the new Sanyo Eneloop AAs?

Apparently will hold 90% charge after 6 months and still 80% full after a year.

The packaging very class! Looks like some parfume or shampoo. :bsmilie:

Hell, when I first saw it, I couldn't even make out that the page was about a new AA battery. I thought the whole damn packaging was the battery.........

By practically eliminating the self-discharge problem, it actually opens up a whole new world of applications.

What I really want to know is whether I can use my current chargers with the Eneloops.

Boy am I glad I haven't bought any of the 2500Mah Sanyos. I am still happily using 2100 Sanyos.

BTW, I read some where that Li ion are more dangerous than MiMh battery if they are not charge according to specific charger. i.e. Li ion AA battery cannot be make due to the fact that Li ion battery need specific voltage rating charger and need follow somekind industrial guideline.
If Li ion AA battery are made, then people will any how charge it using all kind of charger which is quite dangerous.

That is why the current technology only has a one time use AA or AAA Lithium battery from Energizer. Not rechargeables yet.

So how are those 15-minute-charge Sony batteries?

Not sure about the 15min ones but i got the blue stamina version and they are very good. Can hold charge for quite long.

bought sony latest recharge in 15 min
charger + 4 bty about $64

Hi,

Sorry to dig out this old thread.... researching to buy a new charger...

how's the Sony 15mins charger so far?
Is it able to full charge in 15mins or need longer?
able to charge other brand batts?
Thanks

Be carreful,
Sony use classical batteries, with the charger. To charge in 15 minute there i a high currant (in Ah) coming in. If you don't have specific batteries, the classical one may have some problems (heat) or durability.
Sony claims that 15 minute and the charger commes with 2500 mAh batteries.
But sone times the charger stop to charge after 15 minute because of a switch timer. but does mean that batteries are fully charged. For intance GP announced a 15 charger with AA 2500 mAh batteries. but have a look on the User Amnual and you will see, that after 15 minute the 2500 mAh batteries will be charged at 65% of their capacity, so this is the equivalent of 1875 mAh fully charged batteries!!!. So the claim is wrong, but you paid for it. Imagine that your Digicam says 8 mega PXL, but after reading carrefully the user manual you realize that in fact it is 4 mega PXL!!! but this the reallity with some chargers. But who is abble to measure the capacity of the batteries after charging?
Have a look on the back side of the pack. seems that Sony use the same technology as GP, so not real 15 minute.
The only real 15 minute charger that i know is the Varta, so far (i bought it in Europe, but i saw it in several shops in Singapore). Ok they come with 2000 mAh batteries but they are fully charged. OK batteries are specific to accept high current, but charger charges classical NiMh batteries in 1 hour (up to 2500mAh).
Hope this will help.

Hi tilaug,

Thanks for the explaination. Really useful.
The problem is I can't really use much info from the back of the package and cannot open up to see the instruction manual.
Luckily, can't rely on you guys to provide some useful info. Even Sony website doesn't provide detailed info.

Looks like I will strike this off my list as well..... ;)

Sounds like a good rechargeable batt... any idea where to get it and how much? :)

I've been using the Sony 15-minute charger for quite a while now. It's not a "15-minute-timer", it also has a cut-off switch if it notices the batteries are full. It charges the batteries really well, and they last extremely long. My tip is to leave the batteries in for about 30-40 minutes. After the initial 15-minutes, the batteries are at about 85-90% charge, then it trickle-charges.

i am also looking at this sony 15-min charger since the dimise of my 1-hr sanyo charger. however, i notice sony supply 2500mah batts with their charger. i have 8sets x sanyo4AAs all 2100mah. will the sony charger overheat and spoil the batts when charging due to the high 'pumprate'?

or will i be better off with the 15-min varta charger which is supplied for 2000mah batts?

kim chew has no answer for me except get the higher power one but a friend cautioned that the battery life will shorten drastically if you keep pumping high voltage in for quicker charge.

my sanyo 2100mahs are nearing two years old. i have some gp fast charge (silver/green packing) 1800mah that are about four years old and still kicking ass for my flash use. :bsmilie:

damn dilemma!

Why not get the energizer 1-hour charger as it can take up to 2500 as well although it is supplied with 2500s.

Never use before but since Sony brand, should be reliable.. Why not use Sanyo? I'm using them, it's cheaper and just as reliable, I think..
