Sony NEX6 Images

amazing. your family portraits are still the best here

thanks. Do I look like a negative person from my pics?? :)
I am glad the nex6 worked out for me so I can actually post here without you bashing me up...

But I am still really irritated by the NEX6 image review process. SONY have to allow people to go to the next pic while retaining the zoom/magnification settings. This is just a simple firmware fix and the current implementation is very irritating. Dpreview mentioned this in their review too....

Another one with the ultra wide perspective.

your skill deserves compliments dude ;)

tell me about it. even with the Tri-Navi on the NEX-7 i can't scroll to the next image when magnified. it's frustrating because it can be done on the Alpha, but not the NEX.

Ebay... whats dgdgp? I have 3 batts, 1 original, 1 3rd party from courts, 1 3rd party from cheapo ebay seller. None of them leak charge, they just differ in their actual capacity, and physical weight. The one from courts is actually pretty good, I think it's about $30+.
Sorry typo... ah... I'll try Courts then... do they also carry an external charger?

external charger you can get at Sony Care at Wisma Atria. it's about 30+?

Original Sony at $30+? At MSC it was around $100! Don't think Sony Care will sell 3rd party right?

Or was it something else :bsmilie: might have been another charger i was asking about some time back. But no harm calling them to ask

Ok folks, I finally got the spare batteries...

Bought 3 3rd party batteries from Orient Photo at $35 each. A 3rd party external battery charger at $25. I can't remember the brand name of the 3rd party battery but they have only one kind and it comes in a small paper box with light blue and white markings. The battery is rated at 5800 mAh which sounds a bit dodgy cos the power rating on the Sony original is only 1080 mAh? Also the 3rd party battery is very much lighter than the original - to which the Orient Photo chap said that the quality of the capacitors in the original are much better and therefore are heavier. Warranty is 1 year with Orient Photo with receipt to be kept. I charged the batteries and they each took quite a while to charge. Whether that means the charger is slow or the battery capacity is high is debatable. I have not field tested the batteries yet but I shall in a few week's time... Let's see how many shots each battery gives... My feeling is that the quality will vary quite a bit between batteries. By the way, these batteries are all made in Japan...

As for the charger, it is very light but it is not just a custom charger for the NP-50... that's a pity as it has another bay to charge another type of battery... that makes the charger larger than it should be... the whole device is very light and the transformer is very small and compact. So overall for $25 it's quite a good buy I think. There is an LED light that glows green when there are no batteries plugged in to charge. An empty battery will cause the light to go red and then when it's charged it turns green. So pretty straightforward there. No additional plugs or switches. The unfortunate thing is that the transformer is not integrated into the charger base but is a separate box on the power cord. The power cord is detachable though. So you can replace the transformer easily if you fry it when travelling overseas (very possible for countries with frequent brownouts)...

So for anyone looking for 3rd party batteries and external chargers, you can try Orient Photo. Unfortunately they do not have a charger that can charge two of the batteries at one go... anyone has lobang as to where to buy a double charger in Singapore, do drop a line here... many thanks in advance... :)

Hope this little feedback helps the bros here...

If it is physically lighter, it can't hold more charge. I believe my $10ish ebay battery is as gd or if not better than your $35 one haha...

Where did you buy your $10 battery from?

Ebay? There's a lot of sellers selling various "brands" of nex batteries...

Thanks silver. I got my charger and battery from ebay too. Was just wondering if there was a local seller. I agree with you. For $13, the batt can hold 70-80% charge of the original. Not too bad.

Sony website shows the NP-FW50 retailing at SRP of S$120... :(

Used the batteries for a few hours shooting school athletics meet... pretty decent... also used it to shoot 1080p video for some interviews... pretty decent... LCD panel was in the navigation mode. All framing done using EVF. Some amount of chimping, basically just to check exposure. On continuous drive mode. Machine gun approach. No flash, ISO400 or 800. Got 410 shots plus an hour's worth of video before the 3rd party battery conked out.

Miles better than my A900...

Ok, field-tested the 3rd party batteries and compared to the original battery... conclusion - no fight... original is much longer lasting...

Anyway, I had 4 batteries, 1 original (SRP$120), 3 3rd party from Orient Photo ($35 each). Shooting video using the LCD screen really kills the battery very fast... I shot most videos on the 3rd party batteries and they kind of died very quickly... On one occasion, I had a battery drop 9% after a series of short video clips running around 2-4 min each. Full HD 1080p resolution. For still shots, I mostly shot through the EVF, it's much easier and more accurate than the LCD... and more steady. I still shoot the DSLR way... this was a 3-day 2-night camp with students. Mainly action shots, lots of exposure compensation, mainly +1-2EV to get the faces lit without resorting to flash. Actual shooting is just 1.5 days, about 10 hours of action only... basically really need to bring the charger along, and I haven't run through 4 batteries in 1.5 days before... the A900's 4 original Sony batteries last about 2 weeks of intensive shooting and chimping... thinking of buying the originals or more 3rd party batteries... will take a 2 week holiday (leisurely kind mainly landscape type shots), and so will report to see how the batteries can last... they're too small... and the LCD + EVF really sucks up lots of power... whose stupid idea for EVF... optical anyway manz... :(

One more issue, the stupid new hotshoe is a stupid idea... the flash kept falling off... I secure the flash (HVL F-20AM) via the MMP convertor from Sony and put the camera plus flash into my Kata 45 sidways with the camera grip facing the cover of the bag for easy access to pull out the camera... the snug fit causes the flash to work its way off even when I have screwed it on really tight... it's a super stupid idea to move to the ISO hotshoe... the previous Minolta hotshoe was really good... mounted means mounted, means won't fall off and screw up... I almost dropped the flash into the water once cos it was sliding off and I didn't notice! Sian...

Ok rant over....

Was pretty pleased with the performance... considering that I took mainly action shots, the AF was good, quick, accurate on lock on. I have gotten the hang of the menu and really most settings don't require a lot of button presses... I assigned the bottom button to change AF spot sensor. ISO, exposure compensation is taken care off by the 4-way controller. Flash exposure needs two presses via the Fn button and then to confirm selection (it's the default position on the Quick Navi screen) but it's quite ok still. As I say I shoot the DSLR way, which is the Quick Navi screen on the LCD and using the EVF, so most of the commonly used controls are at my fingertips. Feels good to use, positive tactile responses for all buttons and dials and rings. Power zoom ring is pretty good too... just that the Power Zomm 16-50 need a bit more reach... overall, very positive experience... glad I bought it... it's very lightweight... but still I like the speed of the A900... hahaha... and the larger resolution which allows more cropping...

Got a small problem with one of my original batteries for the Nex6. Whenever I charge the battery to 100%, leave it overnight in the camera, I find the battery at 50+%..

Anyone has similar problems? It seems my battery has uplorry already. Does it have anything to do with me putting the battery in the dry cabinet?
