SONY NEX users Thread

i guess the only good deal was the 16GB card as compared to the 8GB card.

Hi, can tell me how to use MF assist? I turned it on already but have no idea how to get the super zoom..
Thanks!

went comex and browsed the offers just now
for nex-5, same pricing(1199 for 18-55mm lens only i think and 1299 for dual kit), comes with 16gb memory card and camera bag.
what i heard is that normally outside they give 8gb memory card.
not really a good deal though, was looking forward to some great deals and considering to buy, but dropped the idea after looking at the offer:cry:

i bought at megatex last month . 2 x 8GB card / big tripod / cleaning kit w small tripod / dual kit for 1209 ~ no free bag =( but i bought a Gosh! cam bag for 39

You using kit lens?

can try this.

Check settings first:
Go to menu > Camera > AF / MF Select > Select either "DMF" or "Manual" (MF Assist not available if Autofocus is selected)

Go back to shooting mode > Aim > "Half press" shutter button > turn the focusing ring

hope it helps

When I try playback on a photo that I shot in RAW, the photo is not normal, seems to be reversed into a negative. Is this normal?

Hi Bros ,

can anyone pls advise how to check the shutter count for nex-3 ?
MAybe looking @ 2nd hand set.
Your advice is fully appreciated.
Cheers.

hi freeder,

Good qn! Triggers me to meddle with mine to figure this out. this is how i got there with my NEX-5 (i believe the NEX-3 should be the same).

For existing users, simply start from step 3. As you might be buying another's camera, you might wanna Standby a memory card (as you cant display this info without a card), and insert it into the NEX.

1. Power On
2. Press the shutter button to take a shot (if the memory card is empty, you need at least 1 count to show the total shutter count)
3. Press the "Preview" Pictures button on the top

While in Preview images mode, You are looking for this information on the left top corner of the screen
> 2 Card Symbols 123-1234
the last 4 Digits is the Shutter Count (eg: 123-"1234", Shutter Count is 1234)

Depending on individual preview display settings, if you dont see the above during this stage, Press and toggle the 12 o'clock button on the jog dial labelled "DISP", you should see it when you toggle through.

hope this help, feel free to correct me if anyone has a better process =P

Many thanks! It works. The thing I missed out is the camera setting to DMF or MF..Haha..

Another question is that I have set my video to output as MP4. But when I transfer the video to my desktop, it seems pretty choppy when played back.
Using iTunes or Realplayer to playback. Any idea why it is so? Or is it better using VLC player? Thanks!

this may not be fool proof, the user can reset the file number sequence though

hi i was playing around with it before i posted, reset, change memory card, but didnt managed to, hence i assume that was the shuttercount, care to enlighten? love to know that bit. thanks in advance!

and not to forget.. Panorama maybe 10 actuations of the shutter..HDR..Noise reduction.. maybe times 3.. while all these show up as one file... :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Juz bought a nex3 cam, may i know y the SteadyShot function cannot be enable ?
As i will be using mostly in the iAuto mode , so is it always in the Off mode for the SteadyShot function?

Cheers.:dunno:

Which lens are you using? 16mm doesn't have SSS. :)

what is street price (SLR or CP) for nex 3 dual kit now?

thinking of getting one for backup.

Hi i just got the nex-5 last week. Had tried the sweep panorama and found that there is some distortion in the combined image. Have anyone else encountered the same problem?

The key point to note is none of your objects should be moving when you sweep. The software basically tries to merge images. If an object appears in one and not in the same place in another image, the software will interprete it as noise and removes it. Or were you using the 16mm lens? That one a little wide so some distortion of the image is expected. :)

Thanks for the quick reply, i understand now.........cause the panorama was taken at a street intersection at bugis junction with lots of shoppers. Also, you are right about image distortion for the 16mm pancake lens. Hopefully, Sony will come out with a better wide-angle lens in the future.

I'm thankful that they have a cheap wide angle lens in their lineup. The 16mm is good enough for my needs. If you want a good 16mm lens, be prepared to pay at least double the cost of the current one. And with CZ on the chassis, maybe triple that.
