Having a camera doesn't mean we can ignore our basic understanding of light and photography. This is not like playing a game of diablo3 where the highest dps weapon will give you the highest damage output.
Understanding the camera and our lenses are important as well. Know their limits , know their sweet spots and know their failings. If all these are known , I don't see why this system cannot be used professionally

I used the 5n to take studio furniture photos. Got the 7 as well, as I wanted to get into strobist stuff in the future.
People like to say that after adding "this" and "that" the nex camera is almost as big as a DSLR. Don't they understand what is modularity?
With a DSLR, you are always stuck with a huge ass thing. You can't shrink it and chuck it into a tiny bag. A bit of weight here and there seems like nothing, but it all adds up during a long day out.

it's super obvious! look at all the cameras out there with built-in flash. can they bounce in the first place? what rubbish are you spouting? so you're saying DSLR/SLT cameras can bounce the built-in flash?

essentially photography is a form of drawing with light..
no light = no pictures..
learn how to shoot with the light that you have..
The difference between different brands of camera for in their respective classes (beginner dslr, pro dslr) are very minimal.
Most ppl would not be able to differentiate pics taken by nik, can, sony just by the pic.
The only thing we can tell is if the photographer is good or not by the lighting and composition.
Basically, dun blame the equip. 90% of the pic quality depend on the photographer.

i'm still a happy NEX-7 user. most of the NEX-7 unhappy users, their dissatisfaction likely stems from being overwhelmed by the controls :bsmilie:

Learn before you buy. Know what you want, know the limitation etc...
NEX system is the best among other compact, specially for light travel user.
You expect NEX for studio shoot, then in the end not happy. say NEX is not pro bla bla bla...
don't blame the camera, blame yourself.
Don't know can new firmware help in this area ? :dunno:

TS's question appears to presuppose that the NEX system was intended for the pro market. While Sony touts--and delivers--"professional quality" from the NEX-7, I doubt they had hopes of building a NEX customer base of working professionals--although this cam can more than hold its own in some applications.
Obviously the NEX-7 doesn't have a lot of appeal to the wannabe-pros, who wouldn't be seen in public with anything less than a full-size DSLR, cheap-ass battery grip, and any lens with a huge petal hood at the end.
However, for folks who like to be able to tweak a lot of settings on the fly, the NEX-7's navigation system is actually more versatile than probably most full-size bodies. Trouble is, lotsa people don't take the time to explore the customizable features in the controls (or even the basic ones), as is evidenced by some of the questions that appear in this forum.
I think it's more a matter of some NEX users being "just not pro enough" for their cameras.

Took about 150 shots of my niece's wedding last weekend with my 5N, HVL20 and 3 manual lenses. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My only regret was that I could not use the EVF with flash, so, the NEX 7 would have been ideal. Some of the portraits shots, especially with the CV 58f1.4, are very satisfying. Sorry, can't release photos yet until I get permission from my niece.
E-Mount Lenses not "pro" enough, true, due to the lack of variety, but sony did offer the option of using an adaptor for their A-mount lenses to be used on Nex.
So if you are not happy with just E-Mount lenses, then an adaptor is the way to go.
Nex also allow the use of other manual lenses with appropriate adaptor, so if you still find the variety of A-mount lenses lacking, you still have this option to fool around with.
Coming from PnS system, I think Nex is pretty decent, I see some of my shots comparable to those pictures taken from any DSLR other than those really pro dslr with very pro lenses, guess the man behind the camera might make the difference sometime, haha
