I think its out in Japan already. There are a lot of pics and unboxing pics posted in Flickr (search NEX5). Wow Sony even has their own brand screen protector for the NEX : P

The manual is also available on the Sony.jp webpage Looks like the flash can clip to the camera strap which is nice

Official available for sale in JP is 10june2010. Given that stocks need to reach retailers prior to 10th, not surprised that people can get their hands on it already. Wanted to get a friend to bring back one, but the price is not cheaper and i would not want to deal with a jap menu when the Nex is so dependent on on-screen menu.

I went to Bukit Indah yesterday and saw the set being displayed at their sony stores. Looks like we should be having it at our local stores any time now.

Was told by a retailer stocks should be in by Tuesday. There's hope yet!

BTW, for insiders with connection to Sony, any news on what will be offered at the PC Show?
If all the usual crap gifts (table top tripod, etc) then will go ahead and buy it before. If they offer second battery etc then maybe will wait till PC Show.

For all these new cameras, don't expect any discount at the PC Show. At most extra memory card or cap etc. Best I would think is an extra batt. I will rather get from my regular shops and save the headache : P

Any idea if the sets that are supposedly out next week are the single lens kit or dual lens kit?

Just handled the NEX5 at Sony Style @ Orchard Isetan via the invitation preview. Very impressive especially the performance. The noise level is surprising 'clean' at ISO1600 inside the normal lighted room. There are about 10+ NEX3 & NEX5 with 18-55 mm zoom lens for hands-on during the preview. The lens are manufactured in THAILAND. No information where the camera is manufactured and definitely not Made in Japan.

Only the 16 mm kit with black colour body is available for sales to those invited @ S$ 1198. It should be available soon.

Even the staff don't have the chance to handle the camera.

i called up sonystyle isetan and they indicated available tentative end of this week or early next week... sonystyle at tampines indicated mid month... they neither confirmed availability at pc show, so i suspect selling at pc show on 10th hehe, gonna try to head down first thing on that day. good thing im on leave that day

I got news that some retailer should have them starting tomorrow (before PC show), but only NEX5 with either kit lens. Twin kit lens and NEX3 will have to wait for 2nd shipment.

Anyway, the sony booth at PC show is not sony themselves, probably represented by one of the retailers, so the rest of the retailers (who did not get to represent sony) might push for early sales to beat them.

BTW, most of the time, these retailers will try to match the promo/free gifts at the pc show, so not to worry.

got a call from a nice sony rep that the nex 5 single-lens kits will be "launched" and available from jun 9... she did warn me that some retailers might receive the stock late, by a day or two, specially the ones who put in their orders late (?)...

she also said the nex 3 kits coming in by end of month or early july

sadly, the sony rep wasn't able to share any updates on the availability of the nex 5 dual-lens kit... she said might be end of month or early july (same timing as nex 3?) but she said its not confirmed and i shouldnt hold her to that timeframe... fair enuff

i wonder which retailers will let us order the single-lens kit and let us top up the $100 when the dual lens kits come in... hmmm

If you compare this to Panasonic GF1, it is reasonable. If you compare with Olympus E-PL1, then it is a little expensive. But consider it is using APS-C sensor that is 30% ~ 40% larger than the 4/3 sensor. You can lookout for a short review on this camera in dpreview to gauge if you want to add this camera to your dry cabinet.

Nope. VISA and carry on the spot.

Last time, I received my preordered VAIO during the last PC show but that model was not available at Suntec Exhibition hall. Wish you good luck to get this toy during this PC Show. If not, it will definitely be available very soon from SONY Style and it appointed retailers.
