Sony NEX full frame?

I got one question here to share, what do you think Sony point of view of Full Frame with E-Mount Sensor? Like most of us in CS will know that the element of the E-Mount lens is not suitable for FF (result might come out like like crop out picture), if Sony make a big adapter like LA-EA2, it will look funny on the NEX FF just to mount the E-Mount lenses.. =/

My view would be. The e-mount lenses could go the way like alpha. E-mount may feature fullframe lenses using the same mount. This is possible as it was said by Sony the e mount size can support fullframe sensor.

At the same time the adapter lea3 is already out for the vg900. The future fullframe nex may support alpha fullframe lenses through lea3 Adapter as well.

Then again, the fullframe nex may not come at all. If the rx1 is a great success. That platform may be used to developed the next mirrorless fullframe. That may be the hybrid mount camera that allows you to use alpha lenses, e mount and the fullframe mount through adapters or natively on camera itself. But anyway, just speculations lol

I think the reason that Sony didn't release their FF NEX is that E-mount FF lenses are not ready yet. So, they release the RX-1, which was probably a prototype for NEX FF technology. As you said, the VG900 is already a FF NEX camera in a Camcorder body, but they have to include the EA-3 adapter because they don't have E-mount FF lenses yet.

They will produce FF mount lenses which means d new FF NEX will b using a FF mount.

The FF NEX will surely be using an E-mount. Why else would the VG900 have an E-mount?

The zeiss 35f2 auto-focus lens on the RX1 is an example of the future Sony's mirrorless FF lens. It should still be E mount but FF and will come by the 2013 Photokina.

Happy waiting for us... I think early 2013 is a possible date though, what is left to R&D is just d lenses...

Agree. Rx1 is a teaser. Showing the market what Sony can do and will do. I see it as an open challenge to the competition. If the rest can up their game, consumers win. The one I see capable to up the game is Fuji. But they seems committed to grow their newborn x series system. Samsung may be the one given their favourite antics to mimic and copy successful concepts lol.

I think photokina is once every two years. Next one would be 2014. 2013 has pma show though.

The next Photokina will be between 23 September and 28 September 2014.

I wonder how many people will be so eager to see the FF NEX when the price starts to come out...

Why should it be more expensive than a RX1, A99, D800/E or 5D Mark III? I don't think the price will hold people back. They know what a full-frame body costs.

We already have a price for a FF E-mount Sony camera. It's the VG900 and it costs USD3,300.

Exactly. It's actually a damn good price I think.

It's not that. Every now and then you have a bouts of fans drooling over the notion of a FF NEX but when the product comes along, you have bitching about the price. A lot of people do not have the idea that FF is a jump in price over APS-C.

Its not the price that scares the rich hobbyist these days. Its the size.

most want a small stlylish camera these days

Haha, actually I think it has to be just stylish. Taking photos with a camera is totally overrated anyway. ;-)

Since a FF sensor on E-mount is possible, the easiest way out for Sony, in my opinion, when it comes to making FF NEX lenses is just to redesign current A-mount FF lens and change it to E-mount, but the lenses will be longer but with rear element further from sensor (think of it as an incorporated la-ea adaptor) to compensate the flange distance. Problem solved. The only pity is that current NEX lenses are just 'DT' lenses.

I doubt it's that easy to redesign them for CDAF with a different type of motor.

also, the lens will be huge. they will need to redesign the lenses so that they're smaller to fit the image of the NEX.

and the new lenses will need to work together with the NEX-5R and NEX-6 phase detect AF system. they will also require a new motor to keep up.

let's see how the new E-mount lenses perform with the upcoming cams :D

Actually, aren't the rangefinder/legacy lenses that many NEX users are using now full-frame lenses? Since they were made for 35mm. And most of them are really not that big. Granted, they are full manual lenses, but I suspect those that will pay a premium for a FF NEX are all pretty used to manual lenses on NEX by now.
So if/when a FF NEX comes out, I think the NEX upgraders will not have much issue with the availability of lenses, or lack of. I think it was almost 2 years after I got the first NEX 5 before the first decent prime for e-mount came out, and I was still happy with it.

So then what is the motivation for Sony to release a FF NEX if people won't be buying Sony lenses to use on them? ;)

Same motivation as current I guess, body upgrades every 6 - 12 months to keep BnS full of "last generation" NEX systems. ;)

I think by now they have released more versions of NEX bodies than they have E-Mount lenses.
