Sony NEX full frame?

I get what you mean bro its like the same for a-mount lenses FF and DT lenses? same mount and flange distance just the construction of the lens will differ... yeah doable but with very narrow flange distance will that result to bigger lens?

NEX flange distance is 18mm the smallest FF interchange body is the leica M mount but it's flange distance is 27.8mm for NEX with FF lens be able to illuminate the 35mm size sensor with that smallish flange distance it need the rear element to be bigger....

All that ultimately would depend on how hard Sony wants to push the lens design get things to work.

And naturally the cost question comes up.

yeah true and agree with you.... it will be crazy engineering and new technology and cost cutting to keep the price down.

I've read somewhere that there's a flat thin glass (could be non-glass material but engineered glass/lens) that could perform as curved lens/glass soon we will have a flat lens glass and with no distortion...

Lens design n construction r moving ahead in astonishing level. It's possible to haf a super compact n light ultra wide aperture lens soon.

Also consider the cost/benefit analysis - Sony would need to design yet ANOTHER line of lenses with a new flange distance and the required adapter, another line of NEX bodies, for a niche market...

If they DO release a NEX body with FF, they may just bundle the EA-2 adapter. So you use Alpha DSLR FF lenses if you want FF, and if you mount an e-mount lens you get APS-C crop.

Bro as mentioned by bro NazulKing no need to change the flange distance for the new FF NEX lens just that Sony needs to figure out how to illuminate the FF sensor with that smallish flange distance (18mm) one possible way is to have a bigger or more curved rear/back elements to be able to illuminate the bigger sensor. this is similar to the current a-Mount lenses DT and non DT lenses.

Point is, they would need to invest the money in the design and manufacture of yet another line of lenses for a niche product. The $$$ doesn't add up, especially since most would just mount legacy lenses.

true unless thier NEX system would gain more grounds in the mirrorless system....

If they dun. Somebody will.

The new 55mm/1.4 Carl Zeiss lens is a Distagon so it is possible to do a retrofocal design for normal focal lengths.

The only issue is Sony's rate of release for new lenses is so pathetically slow having FF as well will simply complicate things.

There's gonna be a new fast lens in m mount with blue dot to be released for photokina i hear?

M mount is for Leica. No relevance to this thread, please post in the "Others" equipment section.

I stayed on with this thread coz *I think* it was moved from the RF to Sony sub-forum earlier! haha... ok, i'll not talk about the blue dot here but M mount is not just Leica per se, its for rangefinder... anyway, that's just interesting news to me even from my perspective as a manual lens on Nex7 user :)

Yeah this thread was created by me but somehow disappeared to here.

Sony didn't annouce any NEX FF

They sure announced a full frame compact lol. Full frame nex perhaps in 2013

I got one question here to share, what do you think Sony point of view of Full Frame with E-Mount Sensor? Like most of us in CS will know that the element of the E-Mount lens is not suitable for FF (result might come out like like crop out picture), if Sony make a big adapter like LA-EA2, it will look funny on the NEX FF just to mount the E-Mount lenses.. =/

They will produce FF mount lenses which means d new FF NEX will b using a FF mount.
