Pardon me if my info is wrong, but there's no adapter for NEX that is capable of autofocusing nikkor lenses right? Be it adapter w/ or w/o aperture ring, you lose autofocus, which kinda don't make sense if u want lighter setup.

Since u Nikon user, why you no consider Nikon1?

Maybe because of the 2.7 crop factor?

Focus peaking on NEX makes manual focusing really easy too... :)

Yeah agree. If he has been using the older MF Nikon lenses then NEX peaking is good.

To me, I just feel mounting Nikon AF lenses on NEX n use peaking Abit... I dunno. I'm guessing he's using a cropped Nikon. So migrating his lenses on NEX for slightly lighter setup but lose AF? I don't see how other features that NEX have offers a better experience compared to his dslr. If I were him, I would go nikon1. The 2.7x opens up a new genre for him, especially with his telephoto zoom. Just personal opinion. Cheers!

The moon is pretty far away, manual focusing should be damn easy. ;-) Maybe the lens isn't the sharpest one...

Patience, and a really solid tripod. A totally cloudless and haze-less sky helps too. But then again, I don't have much faith in mirror lenses, given the cheaper price tag. I think your pic is not bad le. Izzit ooc jpeg? Can try raw n pp. You'll be surprised the amount of detail n contrast u can pull out from the otherwise barren image.

use the 100% magnification to verify focus.

i thought so too! till i tried it!
honestly, i thought i could set to infinity and voila! ! but its not true.. :(

focusing is 1-2mm adjustment either side of the focus ring to get the focus required. i already zoomed in on the LCD liao, 4.8/9.6X, but its damn hard cos after each adjustment the things shakes like earthquake (so i wont know i got the focus till afew sec after to let it settle down). and the moon is moving pretty fast at that magnification! within less than a minute, gotta readjust the camera (and the focus!) again cos its no longer in the centre.

silvermoon: perfect weather last night.. cloudless and hazeless as far as i can see.
rashkae: already using the magnification to verify focus, BUT the thing shakes like crazy each time i touch the setup, so gotta let it settle btwn each focus, and 3-4 focus later, the moon moves out of the centre, then gotta adjust the camera/tripod setup. back to square one!

Within 1 min? Last time I was photographing the moon with my GH2 and G 100-300mm it didn't move that fast. Anyway, also it sounds like a sturdier tripod would help in your case.

this is 500mm bro.. after crop factor is 750mm.. its not a matter of shaking during taking (cos i using wireless) but after each focus.. anyway will try again tonight with a sturdier tripod..

One problem with NEX it doesnt have IS in body so when you magnify the shake will be exaggerated also... I have not shoot at 500mm range on my NEX7 the longest I did was 300mm handheld my ISO at bright day light just to get the fastest shutter speed is around 800-1000 to avoid blurring due to shake :-(. Tripod should help you a lot plus once you get your focus I dont think you need to re-focus on your next shots unless you move your tripod even if you panned your cam to compensate with the moon movements the distance between you and the moon should remains the same.

lol, as I mentioned my effective focal length was 600mm, the difference is neglectable. In times where people shoot with Nikon 1's 2.7 crop factor 750mm is not that long, mate. ;)

did you guys manage to get the wifi applications to download? Singapore seems to be locked out again @@

As mentioned about 5 or 6 times so far, just set your region to USA.

Next time read a bit before ranting, OK? :-)

actually the sony App thing seems to be really promising if Sony decides to allow third party people to write apps and create a marketplace.

I mean anyone can write an app for the NEX6. If we wanted Auto ISO with programmable max ISO and min shutter speed, someone can just write an app and voila we have it. I really don't mind paying some money for programmable auto ISO. I think even if the apps are free, there might be people who is interested in writing apps just for the fun of it.

I mean looking at the success of apps in Android and IOS.
