Sony Launches New G Master™ Brand of Interchangeable Lenses

The New G Master lenses sure hits the right spot!

Is it a good idea to pair 24-70mm with A6300? Need a fast zoom with fast AF speed also.

Why not? I used to pair an A-mount 24-70 mm f2.8 with my NEX-7.

However, I used a blackrapid strap and the tripod mount to sling the camera so the support is from the lens. This is reduce stress on the mount.

When you hold the camera, grip and hold the camera from the lens. Same reason as above.

And no, it no problem using large lens on a small body. When you need performance, lens will always be huge. The beauty of the mirrorless system is you have options. Pair with a compact lens when you need portablity.

went to 313 to touch the new G master lens, too bad 70-200 isnt there yet.

not sure is it just me, the 85m doesnt seem to be as quick as 24-70 f2.8 in focusing

Usually that's the case.. 1.4 ff lens has alot of element internally to move to get to focus point.. I think.... Recalled from somewhere I read years back hee...

It could because bcos F1.4 depth of field is shallow. 85mm f1.4 focused at subject 3m away on a6300, the DoF about 6.4cm while 70mm at F2.8 is about 19cm.

cant believe the 24-70 is heavier than the canon 24-70 f2.8 mkii

Sony said that they focused on making these lenses far sharper by far than anything that has come before it at the expense of weight. So the canon 24-70 f2.8 mike will not come remotely close in terms of resolution. They should last for future 50-100mp sensors.

I was thinking the same, but I actually stop it down to f2.8 and f4 , the speed is still the same, I guess the movement of those big glasses make it slower.
I suppose the lens is to be used in a controlled environment , like you can slowly adjust and do your stuff

Does that mean that the lens are for sale?

Played around with both lens too. Love the 85mm. Bokeh is great! The scary thing is the Sony guys say price not confirmed!

Hi,
So the Sony G Master lenses are supposed to be released soon. Some places like B&H are already getting ready to sell the lenses. Does anyone know when Sony is expected to release the G Master lenses in Singapore? IMO, they are taking very long to do so, with no hints as to when they even hope to do so, and even their "hints" are not very useful. For example, I asked them about the lenses' release date at the beginning of March and they replied that they would make an announcement regarding the lenses "soon". Turns out, they made their announcement, it being the G Master hands-on event at 313@Somerset, which only happened at the end of March. Hence, their "soon" doesn't seem so "soon" after all. Any information out there is also very vague, as some retailers state from their sources the lens will be released at the beginning of April, some state mid-April, and even Sony themselves state mid-April to May. May is simply too long a wait, in my opinion, especially since it can be bought elsewhere and brought into Singapore, such as from B&H, faster they will launch the lens. It is annoying that this lens has been awaited for years, and now that it is announced interested parties still have to painstakingly wait for the thing to be available.

Had a quick hands on with the GM 24-70 on the A7R2 at 313. The AF is fast. But the lens is very heavy and makes the whole camera very imbalanced. Price is TBC, as mentioned in previous post.

I've also went down n had a quick hands on. I even use my own Memory card. The 24-70 indeed focuses very quickly..the 85 is tad slower.. but still not that bad..given if you consider what it is made for and mostly used for.

Bokeh is great but.. not entirely circular as it was being advertised. (only afew are circular the rest..not really.. but the good thing is. Inside the bokeh balls..there is no "onion rings" unlike the FE55 and FE35). If you get what i meant.
I also see Green fringing as well.. Sometimes..can be quite bad too.
Lens is Sharp and weight is alright tho. (85 GM)

on side note. It is really quite a pity or rather fail that 313 does not have both Batis for testing.

Agree... The fringing is bad.. Hopefully it will get better when the production version is out...

I would like to think... the one for testing is a production copy already...
