Sony LA-EA2

Don't you guys find the stand thingy on the EA2 an eyesore? Is it aproblem fitting a nex5n with aEA2 adapter into a bag?

Yes i find it a eyesore. La-Ea1 dosent have that thing though..but it only allow AF on SSM/SAM lenses and it focus very slowly.

??? Why will there be any problem fitting...as long your bag is big enough.

Does it affect handling?

Because of the stand thingy it kinda put me off a lil, I'm not gonna get it anytime soon but just looking around at lens to learn more about them different lens type for what usage what advantage etc... Will stick to my kit lens 18-55 for a long time till I'm sure in what I need for my landscape and still abstract photos...

I'm also looking for a bag for my nex5n. But all. the bags I saw is for DSLR size. Am afraid the extra space would cause my camera to move around a lot.

Anyway I'm really curious if it affects handling besides being an eyesore. (to me it is but appearance is subjective). Kinda like the ea1 look on nex, but again hear performance on focusing and such is not that good. Hope if there will be a ea3 they will do away with the "stand" yet retain the performance of ea2.

Alamak... get a bigger bag lah... I am using a Timbuk2 Snoop Camera now for my kit. Can fit my iPad, 5N, EA2 adaptor, SAL50F18 and my Sigma 18-250 with space left for SunSniper strap, water bottle and some other stuff.

The stand houses the motor for the screw-type AF and the PDAF array, and even has a tripod mount. It's already as small as it can get for the features.

Hi all,

My dad has a e-mount vg-10 + A-mount 70-400g. Using it now via the la-ea1 and he is complaining it to be slow and inaccurate when comes to focusing. Can the la-ea1 through firmware updates achieve what la-ea2 is doing? Or purchasing es2 is the only solution? Will this ea2 be compatibile with vg-10e? I browse sony site it doesn't show up as compatible. Any bros face same issues?

No, the EA2 includes a phase detect autofocus array. The EA-1 will never match that.

Did you update your VG10 to the .2 firmware? It says it improved AF speed. I'm sure Sony will be working on a FW upgrade to support the EA2.

I see.... thanks for clarification :)

Yep, Did that upgrade for my dad a few months ago but it is still quite slow. I will wait for the fw upgrade to support vg-10e. Thanks Rashkae.

When Sony logo appears suddently on the LCD screen after an unsucessful downloading a firmware,
what is the problem

Lenses of the future need to be smaller and lighter to be on balance. We now have pancake lenses to start with and don't need
adapters any more, but that will take some time to come.

Here's a pic with my 70-400G

cool. how is the AF speed light? I used to and mount a Zuiko 50-200mm with adapter on Oly Pen. It normally take 2.5 to 3 sec to lock the focus after hunting a few times.

LA-EA2 ha SLT mirror, AF motor, PD/AF sensor, but no stabilizaton and lose one stop light.
It will support autofocus with screw-drive Alpha mount lenses which rely on in-body stabilization.
Meanwhile, it will autofocus on selected Alpha lenses.

Two things to take note for those who are interested in getting the EA2 adaptor.
1. Photos will not be as "clean" as per using the original 5N sensor.
2. Focusing is slower with the EA2 + Alpha mount lens as compared to the E-mount lens.

Totally agree. The mirror do rob away some IQ.
The whole unit is odd shape too and protute out too much.
If u need pdaf, get the EA2. if not, get the much cheaper EA1.

I recently managed to get quite a number of keepers in an auditorium with nex3+ea1+sal55200-2
With LR3, I even managed to ps and do some crop and print out fantastic 5R size.

Thats too general a statement !

Just as it is with an Alpha mount camera, different lense will have different AF speed, SSM lense are the fastest, followed by SAM lense and finally screw-driven legacy lense.

The LA-EA2 with my 70-300G is blazing fast, even the SAL 35f1.8 AF is faster than stock 5N with 18-55 kit lens.
In bright light, CDAF are as fast as if not faster than PDAF but in poor light, I'll go for a PDAF camera anytime !

I am keen on LA-EA2 and 80-400mm. Guess I would have to go down to the store to try out and judge from there.
Unfortunately, hardly sony center carry this lens.

just got myself the la-ea2 adapter to replace my la-ea1...
the focusing speed is like using a a33 or a55..that mean quite fast
pairing with my ssm lens... they focus swiftly n silently....
was a happy man leaving the shop with my new adapter ;)

1. It is 1/3 stop of light, not 1.
2. So, screw-drive lenses or "selected" lenses? Which one?

FYI, it will autofocus with ALL A-mount lenses that have autofocus. Plain and simple.
