Record a unboxing video for us. :)

I just got my a77 1 day ago with the kit lens. Did noticed the long shut down time the 1st time I tried it. After reading, tested the shut down time again. Took about 5 sec before the sensor vibrate.

This morning tested it against my a300 which a77 clearly outperform it, mismatch here but that's what I have. I have pitted my old Tamron 17-50 f2.8 workhorse against the new Sony 16-50mm f2.8 on both bodies & the new kit lens is much better imho. The colours are more vibrant & vignetting is better controlled here. Focusing is fast as well.

Heng ah...I didn't switch lens immediately after shutting down a77.

For those wondering where I got it...it's from HK. My wife cousin helped me to bring it back, it's with a International warranty card. Cost me HK$14990, the official price as shops ain't cutting price due to the demand in HK, got to reserve & pay a deposit as it ran out of stock before the new batch arrived. Freebies 8GB memory stick, screen protector, cleaning kit & tripod. Plus a handgrip (dun know what is it as it ran out of stock & need to collect it later)!?

nice present hope to see some sample photos soon from those who have already thier A77 =)

hope ur unit works well. Reading mixed reports bout the bugs. Keeping my fingers crossed for my unit this fri.

Pls keep us updated as you are one of few with production units.

The bugs and issues faced by others in hk, taiwan and uk are really cause for concern, esp when coupled with kit lens, the item is not cheap.

I am not sure if i want to spend 2-3k and then wait for sony to repair or come up with new firmware.

Hopefully its not affecting all the batches, esp those coming to sgp soon.

Actually this is kinda first time we see some major issues with sony products for the past few years. From my past experience, i had always brag to my friends that i never had any sort of problems with my gears while they have to keep updating their firmwares. :(

And i believe the march tsunami has really caused serious damages to sony in japan, so have no choice but to make this upmarket product in thailand, as i know except for the newer a33/55, most of dslrs including the present batch of a580 are made in japan.

Coupled with the huge demand in nex5n and nex7 which are coming out from the same factory, indeed quality control has taken a back seat.

If this is a production issue , then I doubt firmware can fix the problems . Then it's really GG Liao. But it seems to be pockets of incidents occurring , let's see if Sony can identify the problems and issue a quick firmware remedy .

Let's hope it's firmware. If it's anomalous hardware then Sony might just have dug their own grave. We're talking about major revamp here and a bunch of recalls. Not to mention our hurt pride.

Seems like Sony UK has stopped all ordering and shipping till further notice...

The firmware upgrade from Sony will be available in the next few days afaik.
Hopefully will solve all the issues those popped out on the net :)

thats not a good sigh.....

been reading Sony users from HK, Taiwan got a lot of problem with A77/A65 looks like firmware issue like black-outs, hangs, crashes, shut-down taking 10sec etc etc some even worst thier am just died and wont recover... It feels like Sony didn't do much testing on this units.... looks like A33/A55 far more stable that the newer SLTs =(

The funny thing is those pre-production units seems to be working fine and most of the early testers including Mike have no issues so far.

Maybe they did not have the pre-production units long enough to encounter problems?

besides, it also depends alot of usage pattern

Not sure abt usage patterns. But most who had problems only like played with the cam for 30mins or so.

I had it since mid-august and used it daily, and used it during the whole F1 in burst-happy mode and no hangs, etc.

Well , most product launches arent without glitches. pretty sure those bugs will be resolved via new batches once the causes for the problems are arrested.
