Sony DSLT-A77 and 16-50 f/2.8 SSM hands-on review

what about micro adjustment to compensate front and back focusing for lens?

Erm.. That's what I just said... Lens microadjustments. Registers up to 30 I believe.

And HK price another 20-30% off LOL
Yea.. definitely all the best prices are in HK..

OT: am surprise.. China selling the 70-400G at 18,000 RMB (Sony price). Even more expansive than their 70-200 and 24-70. Strange..

How's the tracking ability and AF speed of the A77, any chance to do a comparison with A65?

I don't have the A65, but what I was told is the A65 is like the A55/A580 in terms of tracking speed and ability. The A77 is miles ahead.

As for AF speed, don't forget that the lens plays a big part there... It doesn't matter if the body is trying to focus fast if the lens can't keep up. ;)

Mike,

Any findings on hows the high iso of this new 24mp beast compared to A580?

Not yet - I was busy last night. I'll set up and shoot later on

Thanks. Cant really wait. :)

From the link that you share, the NEX 5N's 16MP sensor seems to perform better than the new 24MP one in terms of high ISO performance. But I think Sony has already done a great job as they have to squeeze 24MP in an APS-C sensor and the noise gain jumping from 16 to 24MP is not that pronounced.

While i have something to share.. could be useful.. take a look.

Someone did a comparison of shots taken at High ISO from..Canons.Sony. and Panasonic cameras.

From NEX-3 to NEX-C3, 14MP to 16MP, ISO performance increase from 830 to 1083 (DxOMark).
IMHO something wrong with the Sony R&D if they move from 16MP to 24MP, but ISO performance drop.
Technically possible, but very bad for marketing, and for us users.

ISO performance for Sony camera in DxOMark (from best): A900, A850, A580, NEX-C3, NEX-3.
Curious to see the result for the 4 new cameras.

So much hype about ISO. As long as its good at 1600, I'm fine with it. And also, remember there is an "Argobasta Setting" that significantly reduce high ISO noise on the a700? It even has some impact on RAW.

What I'm more curious is the Dynamic range... any test on that yet?

No official one, but in my testing, the DR is good. Very good, on par with the A900. I tested it in a challenging environment and the tonality and detail was all maintained.

Glad to hear that. :D

Thanks bro Rashkae..

Hey Rashkae bro, so diffraction limits aside, a77 seems to b closer to ff capabilities??

The new SLT A77, does it overcome the limitation for using it in the indoor studio lighting environment ? The A55 view finder can't really adjust to studio lighting and always show black screen.

How is the A77 photos? Does the photos still suffer from purple fringing ?

Read the review bro...

As for purple fringing, it's heavily dependent on the lens used. I've not noticed any "additional" CA for a lens that has CA anyway.

By the way, if you set the AF to DMF in the menu, you get full-time focus peaking even when using AF. And that's also in live view mode of course since live view is technically the default on the SLTs. :)

Wow, impressive....

Am I correct to point out that now the AF system has the similar feature like those found on D7000 and 7D? Where we can choose the area of focus, like left, right top, center, etc and the camera will auto choose the points at that chosen segment.

It's 3 zones - left column, centre column or right column
