In fact I was pondering if I should crop out the chairs too. Ultimately decided to retain it to create a 'square' world. Hee mayb I should post another one with chairs removed

Actually it gives a nice feel of emptiness. So many chairs but he's the only one sitting down

wow!!!! this is very very sharp sir..
good timing for the baby monitor lizard...

thanks sir was reading the dyxum and other reviews it has mixed review some even saying it's the same as SAL75-300, but i think BBC is much better than SAL75300. I may be biased coz I like older lenses :bsmilie:

here's a a review of this lens check out the conclusion http://kurtmunger.com/75300bigbeercanid59.html

extracted from the author's conclusion:

I can't help but think the Sony 75-300mm F/4.5-5.6 may be about as good as this lens. Both have the same color fringing issues. The Sony is smaller, lighter, has Distance integration, and a price tag of about half what you'd currently pay for the Minolta. I suppose they each have their place, and it all depends on someone's preferences. If you have about $800, buy the Sony 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 SSM G lens, which is easily better than both of these lenses.

Im considering getting the A55. However I've noticed that the pics It produces doesn't have a very shallow depth of field. I like to take lots of portraits... Family photos.. Kid's photos. Currently using panasonic GF1 with the pancake lens 20mm 1.7f and am really loving the shots because of the blurred backgroud. However when it comes to low light it's just horrible.

Any advice on which lens I should go for if I'm settling down for the A55 and would like to get similar shots with what I currently get..?

35F18 or 50F18, both cheap and good. Blurred background easily achievable :)

to get shallow depth of field you need to get a lens with a larger aperture and take the photos at a larger focus length... + you need a larger sensor - µ4/3 cameras generally have a smaller sensor, hence the shallow DOF effect is a bit harder to get...

Best to get a prime lens that remains sharp when shooting wide open

SAL50f18 (50mm f1.8) would be good enough for portraits - you get a nice shallow depth of field - Plus currently now Sony has an offer where you can get selected second lenses for $100 less, the SAL50f18 (portrait lens) is one of them...

A Zoom lens with a large telephoto focal length works as well if you want to get a good 'defocused' shallow DOF effect... even if the aperture isn't that big... just that you need to stand pretty far back from the subject if you're taking portraits...

if you have more cash - you can get a SAL50f14 (50mm f1.4) or SAL85F14Z (85mm f1.4)... of course the latter is sick expensive(Carl Zeiss Lens)... but you pay for what you get... haha

Upgraded to a CZ1680 for my A33 n tested it at universal studio today. Impressed by the sharpness it provide at all focal length. Never regret forking out the money for it. Will be eating grass for the next few months. Haha.
