Sony Alpha NEX-C3

huh? Do you mean the 18-55mm lens?

Macro: both oso can, but usually longer focal lengths are preferred. That's why there's a E-mount macro lens.
Portrait: both oso can, but the 18-55 at 55mm, or the 18-200 at 100+mm may be better.
Landscape: both oso can.
yep i meant the 18-55.. hmm but i tink 16mm gives more wide angel? Then I guess I will stick my 16mm lens on first. unless i need to zoom??

16 mm and 18 mm, the difference is not that much. But remember that 16mm for portraiture is much less desirable than 55mm, due to perspective and distortion.

Erm to anyone whom have use the new " peaking function" to manual focus on their non E mount lenses.

how long will it take to focus? and roughly how fast does it drains out your battery?

it tells you what's in focus. so hand-eye co-ordination is important.

so how fast you get the focus you want depends on yourself.

It's excellent. I can now even focus without my glasses on! Doesn't seem to affect the battery.

Only issue is that on some scenes, there is nothing of sufficient contrast for it to work on.

hi being a noob here i like to ask a question. Y isit whever i take night shots, the picture looks very clear in the LCD but when it's loaded in my PC, it's not so clear? Anything I need to adjust to improve?

Hard to guess without sample picture and exif.
Maybe camera shake ... which is hard to see in LCD, unless you zoom in. Btw did you zoom in?

the LCD is very small. that's why the image appears sharp. that's why the Manual Focus assist in the NEX system is great for shots at night.

may i know what function is that?

it digital zooms in on your subject, according to the area you want to be sharp (set by yourself) so you can tune the MF to ensure it's not outta focus.

wow.. i really need to explore this. Meaning I set to M function in the settings and then take a pic and then zoom in to see if it's blur?

oh. so you've gotten your camera already?

Set your shooting mode to A Mode (Aperture Priority)
go to the Camera Icon Menu, select Focusing Mode and set it to MF (Manual Focus)
go to the settings (red toolbox) and look for the option MF Assist. set it to the timing you want.

now when you use the focusing ring to adjust focus, you'll notice that the screen zooms in. you can adjust where to place this area so as to adjust the focus based on the subject you want.

also... maybe you should consider going for the complimentary class. they'll teach you how to use your camera.

hehe Hmm.. thanks! question 'now when you use the focusing ring to adjust focus, you'll notice that the screen zooms in. you can adjust where to place this area so as to adjust the focus based on the subject you want.' this means only that subject will be clear? Sorry to ask silly questions.. wow i wish to go for classes too!

However, i can see many ppl taken night shots that are so clear... even they are on intelligent auto mode.. i wonder y.. btw the C3 is not mine. heheh

borrowed? haha.

ok if the building is on the same focusing plane it'll be sharp. if the image is small, it will appear sharp. but at the highest resolution (100%) it might or might not be that way

The squarish thingy is the area which your camera automatically select and adjusted to be in focus when you are using AF. What i strongly suggest is that you can read the manual and practise using the features on the camera.

You will learn a lot more this way.

bro snowc is right. the squarish thing in the middle is your AF Area. it autofocuses based on what's in that box. if you switch on MF Assist and turn the focusing ring, it'll zoom in. try it.

Hi all,

just a question.. for normal phototaking say on vacation.. taking scenaries. would you use a 16m or 18-55mm?

2mm is not really a big deal in terms of how much of the view you can capture ... try it.
I mostly use 24mm of the 18-55 to avoid distortion at 18mm end.
Also there's always panorama mode if you need to capture more.
