Just picked up a copy of the latest Sony brochure from best Denki at Great World City. Was really puzzled by the pricing plan:

Price of A500 with Kit alone vs A550 is $1299 vs $1399 (only $100 difference)

But there is also a very tempting special bundle with a SAL16105, in this case, the price becomes:

A500 with lens vs A550 with lens = $1599 vs $1799! (That's $200 difference!)

But wait! Isn't the SAL16105 retailing at $899!! That means that the body of a A500 is only $700 if you buy this special bundle??? That is a good $600 diff if you just buy the body alone.

VERY CONFUSING! Anyone care to enlighten me?

A550/A500 + SAL1605 @ $1599/$1799 is Happy Meal Price.

So you save about $400 with the bundle as opposed to buying them seperately for $1998/$2198

If I remember correctly, Body only for A500/A550 is $1099/$1299

Confusing?? Err... They are making additional packaging and promo of their own. What so confusing?

It may just be clearing of old stock of SAL16105 (before Sony increase the price).

I see. So, its not a printing error afterall...Incidentally the brochure also advertised that the A500 body alone price is ($1,199 with free gifts). So assuming if I just like to buy a SAL16105 lens alone and is willing to just pay $500-$600 (rather than the hefty $899 retail price), I can actually buy the special bundle and then sell the body and free gift off seperately for about $1,000 to $1,100. The buyer can still save a good $100 - $200 off rather than to purchase the body from Sony directly. But of course its just a simple assumption as street prices could be lower. But then again, would the special bundle be going also for a lower price at places like MS color? Anybody knows???

Do what you think that make sense to you...

It supports the A330 kind, and also the Canon-like kind, but in the Canon-like mode it's MF only (for fine-tuning)

If only the A550 was uniform black like the A500. I think it looks very weird with its current color combination, black below and silver on top.

The A550 sold in Japan is all-black. Kinda tempting.

Its suppose to be even faster den the one in a330.

do u think sony will come out VG for A550?

they already have. the VG supports the a500/50. most likely will be sold when the a550 appears in stores.

great ... now is tat is to wait for A700 replacement or go for A550

I believe the IQ of A700's replacement is more or less same with A550 (probably the same sensor).

So if you are ok with the handling of A550, then save yourself some money. If not, A7XX is more for the handling and metal body.

hmm the question being now is, how much would the a700 replacement be priced?

it looks to me as thought the a7xx is going to be competing with the D300s and the 50D/7D.

i will expect a7xx to be priced near 2k.
