Thank you for the sample. A7s caught my attention as it is small and uses an EVF which is very useful for me as I use a lot of manual focusing.
But after browsing so many sample images, I am less and less convinced: The bokehs are horrible and this set of samples confirm my impression.
The f1.8 bokeh looks like f8 and higher on my trusty Canon 40D with any lens!

Another issue is the colour. Most samples aren't punchy which I suspect the choice of lens plays a role here. But when I see so many odd colours, I'm not too sure anymore, perhaps its due to high ISOs?

bokeh is a lens property, your "any lens" when adapted to A7S will definitely produce better if not same bokeh as on ur 40D. Granted that it's pretty subjective, but please do back up your claim about "f1.8 bokeh look like f8 and higher".

Colour is user-defined. Any camera can (almost) recreate any other camera's colour with the right settings. And there's lightroom.

ha that bad ah? if the 40D with any lens at F8 looks like the F1.8 bokeh on the sony, your 40D must have a magic sensor :)

The FE 55mm F1.8 is suddenly a very enjoyable lens to use with reliable AF in indoor situations once again

ricleo, enjoyed your photos of your boy, especially the focus on the eyes.

I am attempting to capture my son's moments (4 months old) with my A7(FE35)and I do find the AF in low light situation to be slow and unreliable (tried manual focusing, but my skills not there yet). Do you find a significant improvement on the AF on the A7S compared to A7R or A7?

The reason is that I would be rather enjoying capturing the moment then 'fighting' with the AF and will consider getting the A7S if it makes it more enjoyable.

appreciate your inputs

u mean ur turn to spread poison
haha but cannot fight with you guys too many poison lens

me still searching for the wide angle lens and the wireless flash...

Me like the A7s with manual lens. The FE 55 combo looks good.
A7 series generally with manual lenses are good. Really a joy to see so many nice photos.
also a revelation to know 40D with manual lens at f8 can have A7 f1.8 look. Will seriously hunt for 40D as I am a cheapo.
Just waiting for bro coldfish to post some of f8 to f11 photos on 40D so I can go and hunt one right away.

Thanks everyone

Hi T3rmite,

yes the AF on the A7S is definitely an improvement over my previous A7 and A7R, particularly in low light and indoors.. resolution wise of course it loses out, but 12 MP is enough for me, plus the good ISO performance makes things even better.
