without cheating and going into my flickr page to see which image is by which lens, can you tell which is from the Canon FD 85mm F1.2L @ F1.2, and which is from the Rokinon 85mm F1.4 @ F1.4? both taken within minutes of each other, just that my son has moved slightly hehe and i have to shift the camera a little.

anyway my point is that i am pleasantly surprised by the performance of this Rokinon compared to the canon taht costs almost 4x more. those looking for a MF 85mmm f1.4 that is cheap should seriously consider the Rokinon

2nd shot does have a smoother bkgnd to me, could be f1.2 and more shallow DOF or really lens rendering (need a closer 1 to 1 comparison at same f-stop).
2nd shot also looks cooler (usually the Canon FD are like that)

So if one can pay,
I think 85/1.2 is still better (if I am correct)
Law of diminishing returns as usual between the two.
The other thing is that the Samyang 85/1.4 isn't known to be that good stopped down past f2.8

You can get this Rokinon/Samyang 85mm + 14mm for less then a FE16-35, with still some balance left! That affordable.

Very nice effect, JK! I love this lens, too. However, I wish it could be smaller a bit!

Thanks.
Yes, based on online photos, I had actually thought that this lens was the size of a FA77ltd. :D
But when it came... OMG! it was a german panzerfaust, with matching shape build and weight.
Really solid lens.

I've tried my friend's Helios-40 (which is the Biotar's copy) for few days on my GXR M! Although I love the result and the effect from it, I returned it because of the weight and size! :)

Very special lens if we could use it properly, for sure!
