The Sigma 50 has more diffused OoF on the A7 than on Canon FF.

Sorry, don't understand, so its good or bad?
You mean how it transitions for in-focus to OOF?

Man! miss my 5D.
(in hindsight, seems like Canon got a lot of things right, straight off with that camera)

No good or bad. Just look different on both cam. Will post samples when my 5D2 is available.

Haha...the grass is greener syndrome.

Yupz. Proven. But corner sharpness is lacking as compared to modern UWA lenses. Tatz y I'm sticking to my sigma 19.

And it's a good thing you spotted that before you blew big $$ on a fancy UWA.

Comments on an earlier post I made with the A7-19mm Elmarit-R combination led me to look a little closer. What I noticed was that roughly the 5mm periphery of the frame on the A7 shots was soft at f/8, while the same areas were pin-sharp with the same lens on my 6D, as the lens is reputed to be.

So I tried my 24mm Elmarit-R, which is a reportage lens that gracefully softens going toward the corners. On the A7 it's not just soft; the colors actually get somewhat mangled in the peripheral areas of the frame.

I recall reading on one of the Sony rumor sites maybe a year and a half ago where a Sony exec was quoted as having said that creating a full-frame sensor for e-mount was not a task for the faint-hearted. Perhaps this is one of the challenges he had in mind.

I'd term this a characteristic of the A7 rather than a shortcoming. For my purposes, it is still a fantastic tool.

A7 with 90mm Summicron-R at f/4…
