Sony A7 II

turns out my A7II has a problem.. screen blacks out (no signal) when it is articulated..disappointed

hope i can do a 1 to 1 exchange

Did you accidentally block the light detector above the EVF?

Had both the A7 and A7R.. Hated the A7R especially.

Just got the A7ii last night and couldn't be happier. This camera definately run rings round the A7R in terms of usability.. At least to me; shutter lag is almost non existent (A7/A7R both lagged badly), shutter slap/vibration much more dampen (A7R is terrible) and locks focus more assuringly. The ibis makes low light stills a joy to use. I can confidently shoot 1/30 with the 55FE in low light and get much sharper pics than I ever did with the A7R at 1/160.

To my eyes ooc Jpegs colors and white balance feels better, no more red skin tones under certain lighting conditions. I was initially apprehensive about the matt and rough body but surprisingly it felt more solid and nice to hold than the A7. Don't like the control dials though, A7 ones are definitely better. Weight and size is another negative, feels like I'm almost gg back to SLR days with the 16-35.

All in, it's saved my FE lenses for sale for now and perhaps finally I might retire my trusty RX1.

its definitely not a light detector problem

when light derector is blocked, the whole screen shuts off including the backlight

when i extend the screen, the screen is black but the backlight is still on

must be a problem with the ribbon that connects the screen to the body..

Video here, watch with annotations as I describe the problem.

I have 1 issue...anyone find the A7m2 a slow coach especially processing long exposure shots? I find myself waiting close to a minute for a 30-60s exposure shots.

Shooting in RAW + JPEG.

This is perfectly normal for all digital cameras. Basically the camera will take a same long exposure shot with closed shutter in order to get the hot noise pattern and then process the two shots together to reduce noise.
The process is called long exposure noise reduction.

Thanks for the clarification, maybe I should try to take some long exposure with that option switched off and see if IQ suffers.

I had a brief 2 minutes experience with this talk of the town at 313 yesterday - boy, I am impressed (although it feels a little heavier than I imagined)!

Have been asking for quotes, seems like I've already decided to get this new toy sub-consciously. Now... have to decide how to deal with my Canon gears :/

Thks for the headsup... Something to lookout for before buying

Battery life not too impressive tho. Didn't shoot much from Monday, now running at 39%.

Yep, watch out for this.

the feeling of having your new toy go faulty within the first week is really bad

also the time lost in having it replaced/repaired

luck of the draw i guess when it comes to electronics

I think the ibis really eats up battery fast. Worse when u r in cold country.

Damn I just bought A7II yesterday from MS Color body with FE 16-35 Lens. Big hole in my pocket now and now I am reading camera problems. Really a concern now. Have to use the camera this week to monitor. Hope mine will be fine.
